    Can't install audio driver

Not sure if this should be here or in the Audio section.
My MB is a Gigabyte GA-EX38-DQ6 with onboard audio--Realtek ALC889A Codec. My audio ran sporadically with win 7 32 installed, but now that I have installed the 64 bit version, I cannot load any Realtek audio drivers. Been searching the whole forum and reading till my eyes hurt. So I am hoping someone can at least lead me in the right direction on this. Thanks

Yes I did. Just finished a reinstall of the Gigabyte provided drivers. It loaded the HD Audio driver, with HDMI output, but I need the regular optical digital or coax digital outputs, and for the love of me, I cannot seem to get it set up. Any suggestions????

What I mean to say is that I cannot get the Realtek Audio sound manager control panel to load, so I am unable to configure my system.

Do you have any signs of errors in the sound area of Device Manager?

Are you doing your uninstall/re-install attempts through Device Manager or some other method?

I use Realtek onboard sound and cannot recall any particular difficulties with the control panel.

Do you have Realtek entries in the regular "sound" control panel?

No signs of errors in sound area of device manager

I have done uninstall via device manager and did a reboot to let windows reinstall. Also did uninstall via programs in control panel

The only Realtek entry in the sound control panel is for the ATI HD sound for HDMI.

I used to have other Realtek devices there but no longer. I also used to have a Realtek entry in the control panel when I was able to access the realtek sound manager. Is sound manager included with the drivers for my MB(GA-EX38-DQ6) from the Gigabyte site

It is no doubt something that I am overlooking, but right now, I am stumped.

This is a very fresh install of win 7, so the registry should not be flawed.

    Maybe not.

Are you sure you SHOULD have a Realtek control panel?

I have Realtek ALC892 on a Gigabyte board, but have no idea when that control panel was introduced.

My board has ALC 889A. No, I am not sure I should have it, but I know that I had it when I was using Win 7 Ultimate 32---off and on, that is---as the panel would frequently disappear then too. And I was always able to feed sound off the Optical digital or Coax digital S/PDIF when the drivers would stay put

You may need to just do a re-install of the software.
With the newer Realtek driver packages, it's a two step process.......uninstall......install,
with prompts from the software to restart your PC, twice.

The following location should have the control panel application, that you can add to the quick launch,
    if all else fails.
    C:\Program Files\Realtek\Audio\HDA

C:\Program Files\Realtek\Audio\HDA with two applications in HDA
    RTK Audio srvATI64
    RTK UPD64

Tell me a bit more on how to add this to quick launch
