Driver has stopped responding, atikmdag.sys

Just to throw that out there.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 720
MoBo: MSI 770-C45
GPU: Radeon 6750
Power Supply: Dynex 500W
RAM: 4 Gigs OCZ 1333 running @ 1:2:66

Brief rundown, I was running a low budget card for about a month, no problem what so ever. I upgraded to the 6750, and low and behold, I'm dealing with this issue again. I'm at my wits end.

I have booted to safe mode, uninstalled every video driver, re-installed, etc. I have slightly tinkered with the TDR timing, yet to no avail. I'm still doing research, troubleshooting, reading forums, etc. but would REALLY appreciate if someone can point me in the right direction.

Basically day to day operations are fine, but as soon as I boot up a game, all hope is lost.

P.S. Attached are more detailed specs, I appreciate any help!

Welcome to SF.

Uninstall video driver, run driver sweeper, reboot and install latest driver.

Is the radeon from ati or from another vendor? if another vendor, try their driver. You can also try the previous driver. You can also pull out any other cards to see if there is a conflict. Just some ideas to try.

It's XFX Radeon. I uninstalled the drivers with CCC and installed an older standalone driver w/o CCC.

I'm having the same issue, it will run games stable on Low settings, but as soon as I minimize them or up the graphics, the game will become unstable. In lieu of the atikmdag error, screen just flickers black and then, "driver has stopped responding" occurs.

Do you have an onboard video and, if so, can you disable it from the bios?

Do you have any other cards installed? If so, can you temporarily remove them for testing purposes?

Try upgrading all your drivers (network, audio, etc) just in case there is some conflict.

What antivirus software are you using?

Type msconfig and uncheck all items at startup EXCEPT Microsoft for testing purposes. Reboot.

No onboard video or other cards.

Upgraded my drivers today, and uninstalled my antivirus today. Only a couple programs at start.

I did make a break through though, I overclocked the graphics card via AMD Overdrive and it's running a lot better. A couple hiccups now and again, but more stable than before.

I'm trying to understand the problem to eliminate it all together, currently the GPU clock is at 820Mhz, max to overclock is 875Mhz. Memory clock is at 880Mhz with a max of 925Mhz. During overclock temperatures run fine, yet I frequently experience a hanging black screen for a couple seconds, and once and a while a full on crash.

Very interesting.

Is your PSU too low wattage? Dunno, but thought I'd ask.
