Hi cincihal, I'm running out of ideas now, But I have found this on the web Share a Printer from XP to Windows 7 see if this helps you
Let me point out that this is not a new printer, so when I try installing using the Installation disc that came with the printer I get 'Setup Error, The hp LaserJet 5100 setup program has encountered a severe error and will now exit. Restart your computer and run Setup again.' It gives this same error after restarting the computer and trying to install using the disc again.
I am able to get the printer to work on the Win 7 machine if it is directly connected to it, but then the other computers on the network cannot connect to it. They get the same"No .inf" errors that I get on the Win 7 machine when installing as a network printer.
The Win 7 pc is the only pc in the network that is 64bit. All the other PCs are 32 bit, and either xp home, or xp pro. Is it possible that there is a conflict with the bit types between the computers?
See if this helps. And the key may very well be using "local" instead of "network".
