Windows 7 - Cannot install HP printer drivers - "Access is denied" in Windows 7

I have a newly purchased HP Deskjet 3050A e-All-in-One Printer series - J611 which should be working with Windows 7, but when I try to install the device drivers I get a "Access is denied" error.

How can this be bypassed or fixed?

Exactly how are you installing the driver?

Make sure the printer is switched off and is not connected by a USB cable.

When you attempt to install the driver, right-click it first and choose Run as Administrator. During the install, you'll be prompted when to switch the printer on and connect it.

You also need to make sure you are installing the 32-bit version of the driver as you have Windows 7 32-bit.

The printer is switched off and is not connected by USB Cable.

I used both the HP software install wizard and the inbuilt Add Printer function of Windows 7. Both gives same error.

What I have tried:
- Right click and Run as Administrator to install the driver/start setup utility.
- Change compatibility settings to Windows Vista, didn't work.
- Reboot in Safe Mode, didn't work either.

It may be a permissions issue.

You could try installing the printer via the hidden administrator account.

Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable

Once the printer is up and running, you can hide this admin account again.

This is now solved. I changed the compatibility from Windows Vista to Windows Vista Service Pack 2. It worked after that.
