According to Canon, there is no driver for your camera when using Windows 7 64-bit.

Canon U.S.A. : Consumer & Home Office : EOS 7D

"There is no driver for the OS Version you selected. The driver may be included in your OS or you may not need a driver. Refer to our FAQ section for connectivity issues." - from the link above.

Personally, I always use a card reader to transfer my images. It's quicker and there's no battery wear.

Card reader is a workaround but not a fix.

Really miss the control my own drivers (winXP) days some times.

I realise it's not a fix, but in the absence of Windows 7 drivers or a different camera there's nothing else we can suggest.

In any event, a transfer by card reader is quicker than a transfer by USB cable connected to your camera so I don't see it as too much of a problem.

There is no driver as Windows 7 says it will work without one.

Other than leaving the camera switched on and connected to your computer in the hope that Windows Updates finds something for you, there's little else I can suggest.

Your camera may work on other laptops and Windows 7 may say it doesn't need one, but it doesn't work on this one. Have you checked to see if you need drivers for the card reader?

I updated all drivers for my laptop. Really funky. Just tried it on my work laptop. A Lenovo T520 with Windows 7 and Windows installs the camera in 10 sec and it just works.

Why don't you do an "update drivers" on the problem PC, and navigate to the Driver Repository on the Lenovo T520 and let Windows 7 find the appropriate INF (be sure to check the "look through all sub-folders" box).

If the driver is on the T520 the camera's hardware id should be able to be found in the associated INF on the T520, and that process should result in a duplicate driver folder on the PC's Driver Repository.

Just something to try.

I have the same problem. I have two Canon Cameras (7D and PowerShot S100). Both of them are not recognized by "Windows 7 Ultimate N x64"! This is so frustrating!

Did you find any resolution for your issue? Please help!
