VIA VT1708S Issues
I've done a couple searches and found some posts from 1-2 months ago about issues with the via vt1708s drivers. I have this as onboard audio for my Asrock motherboard and am having some issues - curious if anyone ever got it working fully on Windows 7.
I managed to install it from the Asrock driver CD with included HD audio deck app by using Vista compatibility mode. However, when trying to switch to Expert mode, where I imagine switches such as SPDIF are at (I never had vista, and the vista version of the software is different than XP), the app crashes.
Furthermore, if I go to Win7 sound settings and click configure for this option, it only lists 'stereo' as my options. I'm using Optical digital out and it can cover 7.1 - yet it's not listed. (The same applies for the my HD 4830 video card HDMI audio out - it only lists stereo as well). The only audio option that includes anything other than stereo is the basic audio out jacks which I won't be using.
I'd like to start using Win7 more now that it's installed, but I find myself still switching to XP too often due to this audio issue. It's a media machine, afterall, and being stuck watching a bluray with pathetic stereo just doesn't cut it.
