Partially right pebbly. In the case of your old 7500, yes Aero won't work because it is only a DirectX 7 card and Aero requires a minimum of DirectX 9 support in hardware. In the case of the 9600, Aero will work with it as it is a DirectX 9 card; just have to get the drivers installed and working.

Having this card on AGP not working properly on direct3d/opengl or getting garbled display on the first restart welcome screen after a driver installation but not in safe mode, I did quite a research and what I found working on Windows 7 32 bit full with aero and 3d graphics is Catalyst 8.4 8-4_vista32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_61008.exe
Hope this saves someone some time and effort while trying to set up this oldie.
    Cheers.

Umm, am I seeing this correctly? ATI Radeon 9600? I have an ATI Radeon 9600XT All-In-Wonder that is at least 14 years old. Are we talking about the same generation here?

This is a DX9 card with 128MB ram, supports aero etc, but wasn't officially supported by a windows 7 driver from ATI. Mine is an ASUS Radeon A9600SE/TD/P/128M/A (AGP) on a P5PE-VM motherboard. 8.4 vista driver did the trick :)
The 9600XT is most probably a better version of this one. I think these came out in 2004 :)
