    Sorry, too many threads.
Trying a different cable would be a good thing to try. It almost has to be a loose connection in the cable or board.

    mark partition "active"

i had the same problem with zen ux31e and seagate goflex 1tb.

plug HDD to the usb2 port.
    disk manager- mark partition active
disconnect and plug HDD to usb3 port.
    it's working. 100Mb/s transfer speed . wow !

I appriciate your taking the time to offer a solution; though in my case your advise hasn't helped unfortunately...

Since raising this thread I've since brought a Hitachi Touro Mobile Pro 750GB which is working fine with the USB 3.0 port :)

I guessing the trouble i'm having with the Samsung might lie with the drive's firmware being incompatible with the zenbooks Fresco USB 3.0 drivers. I guess I wouldn't mind so much if I could determine exactly where the issue lay

Anyway glad to hear you've found a solution that works for you!

    usb3 driver

    renesas driver
one step older version works best ver. 2.1.28.0
    today's version is 2.1.28.1

installer suggests to just install over the old version.... Don't do it this way ! ! !

    instead :

1-goto "programs and features" de-install renesas driver
    2-restart
    3-goto device manager
    under: Universal Serial Bus controllers

Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller
Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Root Hub

    are no longer present
if still present De-install them both

4- install the renesas driver from the downloaded file.
    5- restart
6- start device manger again and have a look if ...Host controller and Root hub are present again
    (and under driver ver. 2.1.28.0)

    .....
to speedup the usb3 port to the maximum

    regedit:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\usbstor\054C00C1

    ad value....DWord....Hexadecimal

    MaximumTransferLength
    value: 2097120

    ....
for going back to default speed....just delete this DWord again
    ....

for speed checking and durability use Crystal Diskmark (install not needed just get the PROG-files out and use it anywhere).....Or just install it of course
the sequential measurement is the best for testing

The USB3 monitor is not really needed
    NUSB3MON
if you prefer then disable it in MSconfig ...startup items...
    (i have left it activated)
    end

Thanks a lot for this Great Forum. ! ! !
