After starting the PC, mouse shows up but doesn't work

Hello,
Each time I start my computer, the mouse shows up. But it doesn't do anything.
I checked at Device Drivers and there I got this message after checking USB Mouse's properties:
"The Drivers for this device are not installed. (code )."
Then I clicked on Update driver but it didn't find any solution.

The Laser light is showing up beneath the USB mouse each time I start my PC but the Cursor isn't responding at all.
I'm using Windows , bit version.
The mouse was working properly but after I re-connected the whole PC, it's not working.
So, please help.

Try disconnecting the mouse altogether and reconnect. Does it work? If it does then problem is solved.

If it doesn't. Then borrow another mouse and try. Does that work? If yes then your first mouse needs to be replaced. If it doesn't then try it with another USB socket if a USB mouse. Does it work? If yes then don't use the original USB Socket. If not a USB mouse then the Port to which the mouse is connected may be defective. Try reinstalling its driver and retest the mouse.

If you have tried all the above and still no luck then the port hardware may be defective and needs reconnecting/changing. Please let us know of any further developments.

Win 7, after reboot, Mouse works in safe, not regular

Update: Well, after rebooting 5xs, unplugging my passport drive, replugging mouse/keyboard into different USB ports, all is well.
epilogue: What may be of interest to those similarly affected, was that once I'd gone safemode and rebooted normally, at the login display, where icons for accounts exist, my mouse moved, but couldn't actuate any profile icon (ie, none could be selected and open the password field). The keyboard didn't work at all (ie, ctl+alt+del wasn't an option). Only after physically turning PC off, followed by the actions described above, was I able to have both mouse & keyboard function . . but, now problem's solved.

I'm having a similar problem. I just rebooted my win 7 pc, and the mouse only works in safe mode. Prior to reboot, no s/w had been installed.
In safe mode, the driver for my HID-compliant mouse is "working properly" (location is USB Input Device).

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Brent

ps, this happend last week on my laptop, which I resolved by holding down the WinKey+Fx (one of the F keys, I think it was 4 or 5).
