Windows 7: Wireless Mouse Doesn't Work Win 7 64bit But Works On Win 7 32bit

Hi all.
I've just recently purchased a generic wireless mouse from eBay.
more specifically, this one: 2.4GHz USB Receiver Wireless Optical Mouse F PC Laptop | eBay
it doesn't work. I'm running Windows 7 64bit and it started installing the drivers, first it was installing "HID Wireless Mouse", then it switched to "USB Input Device" but failed after 3 seconds. now it's listed in Device Manager as "USB Input Device" with yellow sign that indicates it doesn't work.
I tested it in 2 other Windows 7 32bit computers and it works just fine! installing drivers and everything.
moreover - I testes my bro's logitech wireless mouse on my 64bit Windows 7 computer and it works fine.
I think Windows fails on recognizing it. I mean the drivers are there.. the Logitech Mouse works but mine doesn't.. how do I make it work?

Did you install the mouse software first, then reboot and install the mouse and USB wireless adapter?

Disconnect the the mouse, reboot the computer and start taping the F8 key to enter Advance Boot Options window. Using the down arrow key, select Last Known Good Configuation. Hit Enter.

sorry forgot to mention there was no drivers. it's a plug and play device. and works like that on the two other 32bit PCs.

My Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard came with driver installation software. I also have a 64 bit system. If windows can not find the drivers for the mouse, you will need to install them. But, first you need to fix the driver issue in Device Manager. Your computer may have other issues, which are not allowing the mouse drivers to install.

my brother's logitech mouse and keyboard didn't come with drivers cd, and my windows 7 64bit installed it automatically.

Click on the + sign next to a red ex or yellow exclaimation mark in Device Manager. Right- click on the device/s with the bad driver/s. Select uninstall. Reboot. After it loads, check Device Manager to make sure the problems are gone. Turn the computer off, again. Hook up your original mouse. Start the computer and windows will load the original mouse driver.

I'm not sure why your 64 bit computer will not run the new mouse. As stated earlier, it may require drivers which are not included in Windows 7 64 bit. Even though it is a new mouse to you, it may be an older model and is not supported in a 64 bit system. That's why it works on only the 32 bit systems. You may need to download the drivers for it. But, you will need to know the Brand and Model. Contact the ebay seller and ask him.

One other suggestion to try is after you have uninstalled the corrupted drivers in Device Manager. Reboot. Check Device Manager to make sure there are no driver issues. Turn off the computer, again. Connect the wireless USB adapted, this time to a different USB port, if you have one. Start the computer and see if plug and play finds a driver for it this time. But, make sure you have removed all the corrupted drivers in Device Manager first. If it doesn't work, you'll need to go through the complete procedure again to install your old mouse.

Perhaps, one of the other members will make a suggestion.

thanks, but I've tried it in every USB plug I had, uninstalling the drivers after each attempt.
I thinkg you're mixing things here a bit.
the fact that the logitech wireless mouse works indicates there is an error in Windows 64bit in recognizing this specific wireless mouse.
the drivers are there. they are the same drivers for the logitech mouse. it just fails to understand it's a wireless mouse too.
how can I change it?

Just because the Logitech Mouse is wireless doesn't mean it uses the same drivers as your generic wireless mouse. My Logitech wireless trackball uses the Logitech Unifying Receiver which is unique to Logitech. Its their own custom Bluetooth device. A 64 bit OS has to have 64 bit drivers for hardware. So either Windows doesn't have the correct 64 bit driver for that hardware or the driver file stored on your PC is corrupt. Running the system file checker may fix it, sfc/scannow. If that doesn't work you may have to try doing a repair install. I'd try and find a 64 bit driver for it on line before doing either of the above though. Google any part numbers, or model numbers on stickers etc on the bottom of the mouse.

regarding the drivers, when I check in device manager what drivers are used for the logitech mouse it points me to the files mouclass.sys mouhid.sys which can be found in C:\Windows\System32\drivers
when I check for the same in the 32bit computer it points to the same files so I was assuming they're Microsoft made windows drivers.
I couldn't find any sticker on it! not a single identifying detail on the whole thing, even opened the screws and checked on the board. it's completely chinese generic stuff. but it works really good on 32bit systems. like 10 meters! what a shame.

I don't know what to tell you. This isn't meant as a dig or insult, but sometimes you get what you pay for. Those cheap generics don't always work out so well. I don't have any other suggestions other than what I already posted.
