Windows 7: Install new RAID drivers without reinstalling Windows 7?

Hello there,

I am moving drives to new computer and therefore I need help. I would like to know if there is any possibility to install new RAID drivers without fresh reinstalling Windows (Windows 7 professional x64).

Only idea which comes to my mind is booting from Windows 7 install disc and trying "repair" option (if available). Could it bring dialog of asking for RAID drivers if chipset is set to RAID mode?

System setup is following:

• System SSD - not in RAID
• Data HDD 1 - RAID 1
• Data HDD 2 - RAID 1

Actually, I want to replace my SSD with a larger one. At the same time, I want to change the BIOS to RAID so I can put a couple of drives together for data. I was able to change my BIOS setting from IDE to ACHI as an intermediate step.

That increased the speed of the SSD, but I still want to switch the BIOS to RAID for the sake of the data drives.

Is your Windows 7 installed on the "System SSD"? If yes, you shouldn't have to do a reinstall. If you're moving all three drives to a new system, start by moving the SSD first, and seeing if Windows will boot with the new system. If it does, uninstall the old drivers and install the ones for your new system. Then you should be able to set up the RAID array in BIOS for your striped drives. I've never tried to migrate a RAID array to another system, so not sure if it will work without formatting--so backups are very crucial here!
