    Epson2480 won't work with my Win7 64 bit

I have read numerous forums on here and other sites. I keep finding posts that are old and relating to Vista.

I tried the downloads from Epson site and from posting suggestions and was able to get the Scan option to work, BUT NOT the Smart Panel portion. Which is where the Copy Utility and OCR functions are, among other functions. I need these to work. The buttons on scanner don't work either.

Really don't want to buy new scanner, as I like the way this one works for photo restore and it was pricey, as I have the auto photo feeder attachment.

    Thanks for any help provided.

Well, looking at the Epson driver list for your scanner, it only has 64-bit software for the ICM color profile.

Everything else is for Windows 7 32-bit.

In the absence of any other ideas I think you're faced with getting a scanner that is compatible with Windows 7 64-bit.

I'm aware that Epson's site only lists the Color Profile. But the downloads I've already done were suggestions from others that were able to make the Scan Option work, even though the links were not for win7.

I'm hoping that someone may have found a workaround that also enables the Smart Scan option.

I have an Epson Perfection 1640SU photo scanner. I bought it several years ago but it still serves me well. Epson recommends the following website for me to find a driver since it does not supply one for a 64 bit OS.
    http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html
Hamick does provide a driver for my 64 bit OS but I chose not to purchase it. Instead, I am using my scanner via the XP Mode in Win7 Ultimate. I see that you are using Win7 Premium so you do not have this option.
If you scroll down the above-mentioned web page you will see a column entitled “Compatible with over 1850 Scanners”. In that column you should find out if VueScan 9 is a viable option for you.

    Hi there

Are there any drivers for 64 bit vista -- they *Might* work.

    Otherwise :

This might be a bit of a pain but you'd certainly get some learning experience.

If this stuff works on W7 32 Bit why not install W7 32 bit as a Virtual machine and run it from that - VBOX is FREE as is VMware player (i'd use this one).

You'll get some decent experience, it won't take long and is very instructive.

If W7 32 bit doesn't support the scanner load up an XP VM instead (BTW NOT XP MODE that's a different facility and it won't run on W7 Home Premium anyway).

Don't throw away perfectly good hardware just because you can't find a driver for the current OS. Virtual machines are incredibly useful for this type of stuff.

(seems strange that there's still stuff out there even for Windows 98 but no 64 bit stuff for a relatively modern device -- this is why I would go for the VM option -- there's enough Corporate Greed on this planet already -- don't fall in to the trap of junking perfectly good bits of kit just because the Manufacturer is looking to consumers as milch cows to upgrade every few months to improve the Share prices and boot the CEO's earnings).
