    Identifying 790GX chipset driver version...

How do I find out if the version of the chipset drivers that Windows 7 RTM 64-bit installed automatically is the same as the latest chipset drivers listed on the ASUS website (model M4A78T-E)? Thanks in advance for the help.

This tool will show you detailed info regarding your chipset, etc. http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

Device Manager will list your current driver. Compare the dates and versions to the detailed info at your preferred download site.

Antman, thank you for the help. However, I know the board has an AMD 790GX chipset, I have CPU-ID already installed and I don't see anything that says "790GX" under "System Devices" in "Device Manager". I know that the chipset is displayed under "System Devices" in Intel builds, but this is my first AMD build and I'm at a complete loss. There has to be a way to find out what version of chipset drivers have been installed, but I can't figure it out and I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks again.

In device Manager, expand system devices..

You will see your chipset there. Right click on it and go to properties.

Hit the driver tab. You will see the date there.

So, a possibe transform of the question is - How do I identify driver details for an AMD chipset through Windows Device Mananger?

I think you are saying that it is not listed under System Devices.

I have no idea - unless you check the video driver (I am guessing because I think the chipset/video are one and the same).

Exactly! I have an x58-based i7 build and another 4-year old 865PE-based Prescott build and both of them have a few items listed under "System Devices" clearly labeled as "X58" and "865" respectively. In this AMD build, there are no entries labeled as "790GX" or something similar.

Which brings me back to "I have no idea - unless you check the video driver (I am guessing because I think the chipset/video are one and the same)"

Well, I went ahead and installed the latest chipset drivers that I got from ASUS's website and I checked the driver version of every item under "System Devices" and they're all Microsoft (the same one, in fact, 6.1.something). The video drivers are ATI. Oh well, I give up. Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions. I really appreciate it. If anyone has anything else to add, I'll be checking this thread every now and then.
