Authentec Finger Print doesn't "read" Problem

    Hi!

I'm new to this forum and I would like to ask the following:

I have a HP Pavillion dv6950la (64 bits) that came with W vista home premium, and now I recently made a clean install of win 7 professional. With windows update I manage to upgrade some drivers for my hardware to work on my laptop (the quick launch buttons doesn't work but I'll wait for HP to release them) And now my fingerprint reader doesn't work!

Here's what happened to me: With windows update, it came an upgrade from authentec that would surely fix the fingerprint reader with win 7, but it just installed a driver that allowed the system to detect the fingerprint reader, and when I try to register a fingerprint with it. It opens a wizard in which tells me how to do it, and when I get to the step of passing my finger on the fingerprint reader, it just doesn't read!.

    Here's what I tried:
1.-I tried the vista 64 driver from the HP site.
2.-I have tried to install the win7 driver from authentec by the link given in this forum too, but still the problem remains unsolved.

Something that seems weird to me is that, in the HP site the official driver states that I have a AES1610 Authentec model. But with the windows update and the driver for win7 it installs on the system for the AES2501A.

    Any help? thanks in advance

Sorry for my english, I'm from Chile and it's very unlikely to find help in my language for now (most knowledge base sites are in english)

Question - did the fingerprint reader work before installing any updates?
If so, consider uninstalling the update.

Start > Type "Widnows Update" > On the bottom of the window click Installed Updates > Find the update and uninstall it.

No, it didn't work before or after the update.

    Here is my solution.

I have an HP DV9700 and an Authentec AES2501 with Windows 7. I tried with the “w7wbf32.exe” and many others drivers and fingerprints manager’s software with the same result: "the fingerprint reader cannot be detected".
I've uninstalled all and installed from scratch with every driver found, trying even with "xp compatibility" and administrator credentials, with no better results. Finally I went to HP.com and download 3 files: sp35583, sp40206 and sp39199. In the first time I just looked for the oldest driver for my fingerprint-reader and the same with the “digital persona”, the fingerprint manager software but I don’t know really how I also download the sp39199 which, in my opinion, appears to be the key.

Anyway, if you wasted too much time looking for a solution may be this can help. I should start downloading and installing just the “sp39199” (remember that I have an HP and this came from their web) with the newer Authentec win7 driver (w7wbf32.exe) and the same with the fingerprint software.

I case you need them here are the links:
    sp39199: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=3355650&prodNameId=3355661&swEn vOID=2094&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ob-60526-1

    sp35583:

    sp40206:

    Good luck!

    Fixed it !!

    Dear Rastro,

Your solution did the trick ! I also had the same problem. It seems to be a combination of the new Windows 7 supplied driver for the Authentec AES2501a fingerprint reader in combination with the Windows 7 supplied fingerprint software True Suite 2.0.

In my HP NC 8430 notebook the AES2501a fingerprint reader was identified correctly by Windows 7 while using the new driver (version 10 which was supplied by Windows). However the True Suite application didn´t seem to initialize the reader. When I tried to use the older HP-supplied driver (version 7.9) True Suite didn't even recognize the fingerprint reader let alone initialize it.

However when you combine the older driver with the "Digital Persona" software supplied by HP then it all comes together !

So the trick to get this right is:

    sp39199: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=3355650&prodNameId=3355661&swEn vOID=2094&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ob-60526-1

Which supplies the older Authentec driver. Be sure to check if Windows 7 is using this version after installing it.

    and then installing:

    sp40206:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=US&swItem=ob-64439-1

Which supplies the "Digital Persona" software for Windows Vista 32 bit (and Windows 7 32 bit).

Restart and it works... at least for me it did on an HP NC8430 notebook.

Rastro, thanks for the excellent information !

    Greetinx and good luck everybody,

    Robert.

    Hi,
I have HP 6715b. Few days ago i installed Windows 7. I installed without any problems all drivers except fingerprint driver. I tried Authentec vista fingerprint driver and the link for win7 at Authentec's web site but they don't make sense. Finally i tried Rastro's and rvb's solution, so i fixed it. But i can't download sp35583 because of the HP's site. I installed sp39199 and sp4026. Thank you everybody :)

QLB works perfectly since I installed Win 7 x64 in july! HP has released compatible software long ago. It works with all laptop models. Search my older postings here.
