Make sure you have hardware updating enabled: Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware.

    Check optional Updates regularly.

this is just to update you all on my previous posts and to also say thank you guys for sticking with me.

    1) dvd bad block....yes i got the damn thing working again. it was as simple as just buying a new dvd device to replace the original one. apparently the lens had gone bad which i find strange because this notebook is barely two years old....anyway

    2) i've finally downloaded the right broadcom lan driver for the netlink gigabit ethernet controller from the acer download site. it was all my fault to begin with by downloading and attempting to install the wrong driver....what else is new huh....anyway all is well now. no more "other devices" in device manager.

You can try cleaning the lens on the old DVD drive if you want to see if that resurrects it.

Make sure you have all of your Important and Optional Windows Update done.

    Enjoy Win7!

Look in Device manager to see if any devices are missing their drivers or are otherwise in error.

Have you done all of your Important and Optional Windows Updates, after enabling Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware

    hi gregr

great to hear from you buddy

yes i just checked in device manager and there are no yellow exclamation marks indicating trouble with any device driver and they all seem to be working properly. i have one device driver disabled by choice....webcam....which i don't use often.

i do not have windows update on automatic....i like to read up on some of these updates before downloading them....but i do check on windows update daily and yes i'm up to date on my updates.

"automatically get recommended drivers" is enabled as well. does the screen shot i posted indicate a potential desaster about to happen? and could you give me an opinion based on the screen shot?

There's no reason to screen updates beforehand as the chance of getting a bad one is one in a million or greater. In fact in Windows 8 updating is done in the background without user input using Win7 technology. So this is a wariness many have left over from XP days.

I don't disable drivers because it causes System Health report and other resources to flag and want to Troubleshoot it. There's no reason to do so really.
