USB and Webcam will not work after infection

    Hello.
I am on a windows 7 home premium, 64 bit Asus a53u. This is a friends computer. His USB, SD card, and webcam quit working 2 weeks ago and he came to me to fix it. He had a root kit in his registry, and a bunch of trojans.happili and generic trojans and another root kit. I can not get one of the viruses to uninstall (don't have sufficient permissions to get rid of it. Hiding in the ask toolbar updater) but it shouldn't be a problem because its been quarentined and is no longer running (sob was using 100% of the CPU). So I the drivers will not install. Period. I can download and install the realteak 2.0 but the drivers in the device manager will not install. I believe I got an error 0000027 (can't figure out where I got that from)
Can anyone give me any advice? Also I am not willing to spend any money on software. Hes not paying me and is not willing to reimburse either.

I used that link several times and re installed EVERYTHING available to me with no success. I used Malware Bytes and ComboFix. couple other small utilies as well to stop the proccesses that the virii where using. The problem existed before the virii where removed.

Run the system file checker SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker this will find any corrupt system files are you using full admin rights when trying to install these drivers ? :)

I will run that when I get home tonight. (computer is not with me atm and I am work) and yes I am using the admin account and running everything as admin where I can. Is there anything else I can do if that doesn't work or it detects bad files?

sfc/scannow should repair most of the bad files itself. If not......... a repair install may be your only option.

SFC will repair any corrupted system files it finds (from it's own repository) You caqn create a new folder on the desktop and download and extact all the driver files to it , then go to device manager ,right click on all the problem devices (1 at a time) select update driver and point windows to the folder you created see if you have any luck doing that

usually after rootkit infections best way to fix pc is to do clean reinstall (backup any data you may need and format everything)... or restore image from before infection. (in most cases clean reinstal is even faster than cleaning that is not always effective)
that is because rootkits are very hard to remove, and there is no 100% guarantee that pc is clean even if scans tells you its clean...
