Post back, and fill out your system specs - motherboard for PC, or laptop's name are the most important , also your sound card's details in this case. The vista drivers work most of the time, and sometimes you can get an XP driver to work.

To resolve the OS mismatch if the drivers wont install normally do the following :

To install a driver OR program in compatibility mode - right click the setup.exe file - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista/xp etc - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start setup.exe and install.

    Excellent info :)

To the OP, just asking about 'Soundmax' drivers/issues will not help unless we have more information to go on (hardware details). This will allow others to help in any way they can to resolve your issue

    Win 7, Soundmax integrated audio

I may be in a similar boat, but I think my issue is related to 64 bit O/S.
My integrated audio will not work in Windows 7 64 bit. My system would not install Windows 7 32 bit. Once I tried the 64 bit XP and audio would not work either. I have AMD Sempron 3400+ processor, and might be Asus motherboard.

My audio is showing up as SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio, and I have version 5.12.1.5410 installed

There is something about my motherboard/integrated audio that makes it extremely difficult to configure if I build a clean machine of just about any O/S. I have XP 32 bit booted right now, but I really want to boot in 7.

There are forums about this particular audio regarding 64 bit in other forums. I was hoping 7 would have configured it. This type of mobo came out five years ago.

    SoundMAX For Compaq 510/530 EVO

I downloaded the Vista driver SP36530 and tried to install using setup it but got as far as this driver is not for your operating system. It did create a swsetup folder in my root drive which led me to swsetup>Sp36530>i386>Vista.
I went to device manager and used Update Driver Software and browsed to the Vista folder. From there, it found the new drivers, installed them and TADA, I have sound.
Driver details show Driver Version 5.12.1.5410
    dmk.sys
    portcls.sys
    smwdm.sys
    SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio

    Hope this helps someone out.
