downloaded driver location in Windows 7

    Hi all,

I'm having a problem to connect to a network's printer LaserJet 2100 series PCL 6 (the server's OS is Windows XP 32bit) to my deksktop PC (Windows 7 Pro 64bit). It says that it can't locate a suitable driver, regardless I already downloaded the drivers LaserJet2100-Windows 7 (64bit) from the HP official website.

I did also try to 'add a printer' -> 'add a local printer' -> and then install a printer driver for HP Laserjet 2100 PCL 6.
Seems to me that probably I already have this driver downloaded into my computer, but I just don't know where Windows 7 save this downloaded driver. If only I could locate the driver, I might be able to locate it manually and used for the network's printer.

Anyone have any idea where the location of the downloaded driver, e.g. somewhere in the Computer> C: > Windows >..., from 'add a local printer'?

    Thanks in advance!

    Problem solved!

Instead of adding as a network printer, in Windows 7 apparently you have to assign it as a local printer (which I found it's quite peculiar!).

Here are the steps to solve the problem:

go to Devices and Printers > Add a Printer > Add a Local Printer > Create a New Port: Local Port (not even a TCP/IP port!) > Port Name box appear > Enter a port name \\Servername\Printername (exactly as it appears in the server's computer) > Install the Printer Driver > done!

    Thank you

I've been trying to get my new Windows 7 machine to print with a Vista server. After hours of looking, I found your website and solved it in 30 seconds! Thanks!
