"...but if your having problem with acer download,..."

Since the problem does indeed to be involved with the events I describe in post #15, how can I determine what model of emachine is the same as my Aspire 1410 (11.6")?

truthfully the driver is worthless, any website like skype, facebook, will ask for permission to have access to webcam. basically its just another program that you can open, view on your desktop and see yourself with. take pics or make video of just you, unless you turn it around and carry it to take pics or make movie. sometimes if you right click on the website theres a screen that lets you go into the settings of flash player, usually webcam is marked denied, and you have to check allowed. at which do you have the latest flash player installed. cause webcams use flash player for web access.

    Thank you!

I performed the scan and was returned to exactly the same screen as before. I've uploaded 2 files showing what I see in DevMgr...

Try the above ^^ Programs compatible with web-cams do automatically recognise any web-cams which are connected to your computer.

The driver for the 'USB' Microsoft camera is very old too, have you tried finding a updated driver for that, and then trying the web-cam?

Looking at this screenshot you uploaded, there is no problem with the driver,

You still need an application to use the webcam, do you have something like skype or similar installed?

I know, there isn't any error code for the driver, but just find it to be strange, that the Acer webcam has disappeared from the Device Manager, after they formatted their hard-drive to install Windows 7 :S

This thread was initiated by me because Skype reported an error message when trying to access the webcam. I'll go back and attempt to recreate the scenario.

A very old driver for sure, so I right-clicked on USB Camera in the devmgr and selected "Update Driver Software...", with the following result:

"The best driver software for your device is already installed. Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date."

acer hasnt updated any drivers for yours or mine since 2009. but looking at yours on acer support website theres 3 drivers for webcam. what windows version do you have. plus keep in mind acer uses one set of DVD's for several computers. and acer knows they have problem with dvd's installing from day one. they will fix it for 200 bucks.
to fix theyre error in DVD's, buy a full version of win7 delete partitions on drive C and drive D. do a custom clean install do not connect to internet yet. remove DVD and reboot, then connect to internet, do not register your DVD just yet, go to acer support and download your drivers webcam audio and vga. install them rebooting when prompted, then register dvd so updates can be downloaded.

This is the same driver I have for my HP laptop, I don't think your problem is a driver.

See if this website recognizes your camera, it's just a webcam test,

that the microsoft compatabily driver, we all have that for webcams. windows reconizes all hardware and installs the microsoft compatabilty driver. the manufacture uses a software for it to work on the desktop. search acer crystal eye webcam and you'll see others having same problem. for skype and other websites you must have flash player. update is flash player 11.4, if he hasnt updated to the 11.4 and still using 10.0 that might be the problem.

OK, in clicking on the link, I'm taken to a page that says, "Test Your Webcam." Downloads for 7Zip and other links are on the page...not sure if I need to download anything or should something happen when I arrive at the page? Clicking on the title Test Your Webcam takes me to ad pages ??
