ASUS DVD drive - code 19

    Hey all,

It's been a while, but I built my first PC a couple of months ago :). So far everything works great....I had some minor problems but those were fixed.

But now, I have another small problem. My DVD drive doesn't show up in My Computer. I checked Device Manager, and I have an error for my driver. Here is the error:

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

I have tried using Driver Fusion to wipe out all drivers and reinstall with no change.

The drive shows up in BIOS so it's not a connection problem. Is there a solution for this? I'd prefer not to reinstall the OS....

    Thanks for the help :)!

See this link to Microsoft. The Microsoft fixit will "fix it" for you. Its a registry filter problem.

Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

Thanks fireberd for the link. I ran the fix it program and the problem was not solved. The program said to unplug the device and plug it into another port (which I did) and then closed.

I also ran the hardware and devices troubleshooter. The troubleshooter said it was a registry problem that would be fixed from a driver reinstall. So I ran that, and it searched for a driver in Windows Update, then said the driver installation failed. Here is a screenshot:

There is no 3rd party drivers for CD/DVD drives just the default built in Windows drivers. That "fixit" didn't recognize the correct problem.

Try this manual registry fix. How to Fix Code 19 | eHow.com

    Good work fireberd!

The Windows "Fixit" doesn't really seem to solve any problems, so the manual method is always the best route to take (:
