Clean installed Windows 7, multiple drivers missing.

Hi, I clean installed Windows 7 on my HP Pavilion DV6-6C35DX laptop using these 2 guides:

SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

    Clean Install Windows 7

I noticed when I was installing Windows 7, I never had a screen pop up (step 17) asking about my network location type. After Windows was installed, my laptop couldn't find any networks regardless if I tried plugging an ethernet cord from my modem into my laptop. When I click troubleshoot it says, "Install a driver for your network adapter". I click next it says, "Windows could not find a driver for your network adapter". I look in my Device Manager, I see under Other Devices it lists: Ethernet Controller, Network Controller, PCI Device, SM Bus Controller, Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller, Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller, Unknown Device, and Unknown Device all with yellow exclamation marks next to them.

My Googlefu skills told me that when clean installing windows it only installs generic drivers, and I need to install the drivers on my motherboard disk. The problem is my laptop didn't come with any such disk. I tried going on HP's website on another computer, and burning all the network drivers onto a blank DVD ( can't use a USB since those drivers are not working). When I installed them nothing really happened.

I usually like to figure this stuff out by myself, but I've ran out of ideas.

You are on the right track, going to the website. You probly didn`t put the network drivers on the disc properly. Just get the network driver, don`t worry about the others. You can fix those once you get online.

Save the driver downloads to the desktop of the pc you are using, then copy them to a cd, don`t burn them, and they should work fine. You only need the 1 to start with. Your realtek LAN ethernet driver. ( bottom of the network list )

Once you get online, you can use windows update. When you`re done, if you have still have drivers missing, then go back to the website.

Very odd your usb won`t work.

To assure you get maximum driver support from Windows Updates once you're online with the wireless driver linked, enable Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware.

Then install all Updates before importing any which are still missing as stated.

Ok so I'm having trouble downloading the driver. I had it copied to a CD, and then I transferred it to my desktop. When I go through the installer it creates and saves the driver to a folder called C:\SWSetup\SP56036. When I click next it goes to the install shield wizard, but stops before it finishes without any pop up or anything. Sometimes windows will give me a pop up telling me it wasn't installed right and to "Reinstall using the correct settings". When I do, the same thing happens.

Go back to the Download Drivers webpage for your model to confirm you have the correct model, and are choosing the correct Win7 bit-version, and correct wireless Device listed for your model.

If it won't run from where it unzips, then in Device Manager, under Wireless device, click Driver tab, then Update driver, then Browse, and browse to the unzipped driver folder to see if it will pick up the driver.

Another method is to plug in by wire, see if WIn7 will load the driver from it's DriverStore. If not install it's driver from the same Driver webpage for your model. Once online let Windows Updates deliver the rest of the drivers. Let us know if any are missing after all Windows Updates are completed.

figured it out, the LAN driver from HPs website worked so I got online from there. I had to look around the internet for hours to find all the correct drivers. HP's website is complete shit. For those having smilier problems, just keep searching google for each individual driver and you will eventually come across it.

Why did you need to search for so many drivers? This is not how it's done in Win7. Did you read what I wrote?

Did you wait to see what drivers were delivered by Windows Updates?

This is not XP. Win7 decides which drivers it wants and installs them via Windows Updates.
