Hp Pavilion dv6 doesn't show wireless driver- RAlink rt5390 802.11

    Hi everyone,
I apologize in advance- I don't know much about computers.
A few days ago, I shut the lid of my Hp Dv6 6108us laptop (running windows 7 home premium 64 bit) and when I opened it later, the Wi-Fi button was lit amber, signaling that it was turned off. I pressed it again to turn it on, but nothing changed. Since this has happened once or twice before (I didn't think too much of it) I just restarted the laptop, which usually got the light back to blue (=working Wifi). Nothing changed over several reboots.
    So I did some googling.
    My driver is a RAlink rt5390 802.11 b/g/n adapter
I've tried pressing the F12 button (which turns wifi on and off)
    I've tried a hard reset
I've tried going into the registry, disabled WLAN AutoConfig and restarted.
I've updated BIOS and the chipset driver available here (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...t=5118843#N253)
I tried changing the power settings so the wifi wouldn't turn off during sleep mode, but it acted as if I had no wireless driver. Troubleshoot did nothing but suggest I use an ethernet cable.
I've uninstalled (then reinstalled after it didn't help) HP connection manager.
I did a system restore to before the problem occurred.
I finally found the device in device manager after doing the "show non present devices=1" in the registry.
    --There's no enable option
    --Clicking roll back did NOTHING.
--Updating the driver led to a message saying I had the most up to date driver.
I've tried uninstalling the driver (using IObit uninstaller as well as the Windows uninstaller) and deleting every file I could find that was associated with the driver,
    --These were files in C:/SWSetup/Drivers, C:/SWSetup, C:/Program Files, and C:/Program Files (x86)
I tried using HP recovery manager to reinstall the driver (which, depending on what fix I tried, either didn't show up at all in the list of drivers to reinstall, showed up and gave an error message saying to uninstall the program 1st, or seemed to work but literally had the circling-waiting symbol going for 12+ hours)
I've tried installing other drivers that work with my computer, the same version of my driver, and an older version of the driver, all from the hp website.
--These all saved as .exe files and did some "setup thing"- it ended with it saying it's extracting files for installation (never installing) and none of the files that it did extract ran any installation.
I've opened it in safe mode and tried to reinstall the downloaded drivers- same thing happens.
PLEASE HELP! I can't think of anything else to try. These attempted fixes were all done with restarts and system restores in between so one wouldn't affect the other. Nothing seemed to have caused this issue- no crashes, no physical damage, just putting it to sleep once.

Oh and I've also run virus/malware/rootkit checks using Avg Free and Malwarebytes.
