Hello Alexm,

I can only find a XP Broadcom-Driver (4401 integrated NIC) 3.63 version available for your Dell Dimension 2400 at the Dell link below.
Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]

However, I found a Vista Broadcom 4401 integrated NIC 4.60 driver version available at the Broadcom link below that may be your best option.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

If you haven't installed the driver, you are not connected to anything so unless you have given your PC a static IP, you won't have one.

Try installing the driver. That needs to be your first step.

You can't assign an IP if there's no device to assign it to, static or not. The driver's the glaring missing component. Your system won't even have a hint, an icon, a string of text, saying anything about network connections or hardware until you get that driver up

I choose the one from dell. this gets a bit funny. the Install went well, & network connection showed one with partial signal. guess what"lol", gable from modem was not connected to wan In the router. switched the two(2), Internet. for now thanks all
