Synaptics touchpad is not operated well, especially multi-touch

    Hello,

I use Windows 7( 64bit) in my notebook.

The most recent version of synaptics touchpad driver (16.2.21) was installed.

In device manager, Synaptics PS /2 Port TouchPad is well operated.

However, I cannot select the Synaptics touchpad in the mouse properties of the control panel.

In 'button' of the mouse properties, 'wheel mouse connects PS/2 port' is the only option I can select. (The sentence "Wheel mouse connects PS/2 port" is interpreted sentence since my window is not Eng. version.)

Because of this, I cannot set the multi-touch function in the device setting, installed by the driver, of the mouse property.

How can I solve this problem?

Plz, give me your solution ~~

    Welcome to the Seven Forums

Do you have the Device Settings tab on the mouse properties window?

Did you update the drivers yourself?

You may want to go to your computer manufacturers website and download the drivers they recommend and uninstall the ones you are using now and install them.

+1 to that suggestion. I had a very similar problem with the touchpad on my Acer Aspire 5920 using the Synaptics drivers from the Synaptics web site. Going to the Acer supplied drivers got everything working correctly.

    Thanks for your attention.

I installed the driver provided by manufacture.
However, it did not work well.
Now, I claimed this problem to the manufacture's website.

It's my understanding that the hardware itself has to support multi touch for it to work. Just installing multi touch drivers isn't enough. Does your touchpad support gestures?

I'm having a similar problem. In the "mouse properties" box that Bongo showed above, my system doesn't say "Synaptics Touchpad Vxx" though. My touchpad shows as a mouse, with left and right buttons, so I can't disable the incredibly annoying "tap to click" aspect of the touchpad. This problem has only arisen since I had to replace the laptop's top cover, which includes the touchpad. And yes, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the device and drivers, tried OEM versions, the latest versions, etc. etc.

PC is an Acer Aspire 5741 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64; OS is fully updated.

    Any insights?

    Thanks!

After replacing the cover with touchpad are you sure it's a Synaptics touchpad still?

Thanks Jerry - this doesn't help Bongo but in my case, I was finally able to determine that the touchpad in the new cover is from Elantech, not Synaptics.
