Intel GM965 cannot play games on 64 bit Win7RC
I finally installed the 64 bit RC on this laptop which has the Intel gma X3100 (gm965) cpu. Using the original driver installed by windows 7 RC 64 bit I could play Lugaru ( Wolfire Games - Lugaru ) demo but only with corrupt resolution. Changing the game's resolution did nothing. Later I tried it again, only this time, there was no video at all.
I tried Quake 1 using the DarkPlaces graphics engine, again, no video at all.
I installed the newest Intel drivers a few days ago, no improvement. Still no video in 3D games.
Playing with the Intel graphics panel I found I could get video in Quake 1 if I lowered the Depth buffer bit depth to 16 instead of 24 or "default" however, that video was incredibly and unacceptably slow, even for this video chipset. I got 2 frames per second at the absolute lowest settings where before it could push 25fps.
I set it back to 24 bit, no video again.
Is it just a corrupted installation or are the 64 bit Intel gm965 drivers crippled for everybody?
I'm not totally sure but I think video in general is slower than it should be, not just for games.
