System Devices..High Definition Audio Controller. Code 10  

Recently build new rig. Specs:

i7 3930k
Asus Rampage IV Extreme
G Skill Ripjaws Z 32gb
Samsung SSD PRO 256gb
MSI 7970 Crossfire
Corsair AX1200i

Put build together all went well. After a couple of days downloading drivers began to test hardware. Started with GPU's. Installed amd 13.2 beta 7 drivers and installed Battlefield 3. Benchmarked gpu's with Heaven a few times at stock to ensure all is well. Played a few games of BF3 and Far Cry 3 all went well. Enabled Crossfire and benchmarked with heaven and then played BF3 and Far Cry 3. All went well. I am happy as can be.

Several days ago, I installed xbox 360 wireless controller. Installation went fine. Then I realize that I was not getting any sound coming from my Bose Companion 5 speakers. Did some digging and went to Device Manager/System Devices/High Definition Audio Controller had the dreaded yellow exclamation point indicating something is wrong. So, I backtracked and thought that the last thing I changed prior to PC working fine was installation of Xbox controller. So, I unplugged the dongle from the back of the i/o and voila...I have sound again. I didn't uninstall the xbox 360 controller from system just unplugged the dongle. I figured I might have a bum USB port. So I tried to a different USB and still NO sound. I then installed the USB dongle in the FRONT of the case and viola....I have sound and an xbox controller. However, I still have the issue the Audio controller conflict.

Also, now my crossfire is not working. It just seems to me that this high def audio controller conflict is the root cause. When I try to play in crossfire my monitors go black and monitors indicate no signal. I am at a lost here. Been trying for the past several days to rectify the problem. I have about another 10 days until my 30 day for return of any hardware lapsed. Here is the info in properties:

Troubleshooting done so far: fresh install of amd 13.2 beta 7 drivers, tested each gpu seperately and also benchmarked each individually, changed crossfire bridge. Disabled crossfire and YES it does work when crossfire is disabled. Any help would be appreciated. I need to fix this conflict with audio controller. Thanks.

The problem may lie in the installation of the beta drivers here when doing a new build you should first of all install the hardware drivers from the motherboard driver disc that comes with every new motherboard sarting with the chipset drivers as these usaully include USB drivers unless there is a seperate driver for USB.

The chipset driver also gives the correct locations for other drivers when installed to ensure they do not go to the wrong place or incorrect address.

Then install vga/graphics card drivers and then other hardware drivers.

Beta drivers usually come with no support and can contain bugs so you use at your own risk.

Yes, did exactly what you stated. After 1st install of Win 7, installed chipset drivers first provided by asus. Actually, vga/graphic drivers was the very last thing installed.

I was able to troubleshoot my crossfire issue. I was trying to play games in one monitor 1920x1080p. So I figured to try eyefinity 5760x1080. viola....its working. Both GPU usage up around 100% playing Battlefield 3. this is just puzzling to me. Am I to assume that my crossfire setup (stock setting) cannot run a single 1920x1080p resolution but able to play 5760x1080. Am I missing something here?????

As for my high def audio controller problem. I really dont know what else to do. everytime I put my xbox 360 wireless dongle in the back of the i/o.....i lose audio from my Bose Comp. 5 I dont get the red X on the taskbar like some have encountered. I checked my playback devices and see that the Bose is still at default, however the Realtek Audio device is the one showing audio coming out. My only solution to get audio and xbox wireless controller is to plug wireless dongle in the front of the case. Any thoughts. Thanks.

Try uninstalling the bose audio drivers and xbox wireless controller and restart computer.

Install the xbox wireless controller software and test if ok then proceed to install the bose audio drivers.

Check in device manager for the wireless controller and bose audio controller and see if they are any resource conflicts.

You may see if there is an update to the ati crossfire software and drivers to see if this issue is rectified.

Appreciate your guidance. I think for now I am just going to leave it as is....I dont have any issues with plugging Xbox dongle in front of the case. Guess I am just hoping future Windows Update will rectify this conflict.
