Hp deskjet printger

My toshiba laptop will not let me install the driver for my wireless hp printer. it keeps saying install failure. I am using windows 7. My laptop, at one time did install the drivers, now it will not accept it. It is a HP 3060 all in one printer.

In Device and Printers, did you click on printer icon and run troubleshoot? I've seen sometimes option to download and install driver needs to be enabled and troubleshooter will walk you through that.

I have tried all the troubleshoot options. I have even sent for and received the driver disc from HP. While the installation process is in process it just stops and says installation has failed.

Does it give you any type of error message or reason for the failure? Is the printer already configured for your wireless network? My LaserJet P1102w has the drivers right on the device. I just plugged my laptop into it with a USB cable and the installation program ran from there.

No reason for the failure. It does give an error message MSI-1603. Evidently the driver is not include on the printer. I tried what you suggested and connected the printer to the laptop. The computer went to the Internet and I was able to download the driver. The install failed again. I have done this a countless number of times. The printer works with my desktop. What s confusing is that this combination printer and laptop worked wirelessly just fine a few months ago.

Ok, it was just a thought. My older Deskjet F4100 doesn't have the embedded drivers in it, but my newer LaserJet P1102w does. I guess the usual things to try now are to temporarily turn off your firewall and antivirus in case they are blocking something. Really though, if you didn't have to do this in the past you shouldn't have to now. It doesn't hurt to try it though. A quick Google and it looks like that error code is a generic "it failed" code. I have to go out right now but I'll give this problem some more thought latter.

Thank you for your thoughts on this problem. I have come to the conclusion that my windows software may be corrupted. I would like to wipe my hard drive but I do not have windows 7 and I am not sure I am willing to purchase it. My concern is that if I purchase another wireless printer, of course not HP, I may have trouble loading its driver also.

If its a preinstalled OEM version there should be a utility to burn a set of recovery disks. There should also be an option to press a key during boot up to do the factory restore. Be aware that doing a factory restore will likely wipe your drive or partition and erase all your personal files. Backup what you don't want to lose to external media before doing it. Another option may be to run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

The problem lies with hp software, not your windows. Turn off av and firewall, connect by usb and then try. I have had this type of problem with hp software, you are not on your own. Once connected by usb try installing driver for wireless though your firewall may prevent this happening(avg does) win firewall flawless.

The HP setup software can be a pain. One thing I learned is, if you run the setup software from the CD or your PC "do not plug the printers USB port into your PC" until prompted. If you do the setup will almost certainly fail.
