What is the Driver Update Program – where did it come from

All of a sudden, when my PC boots up, a Driver Update window appears saying that there is an update to the DriverUpdate program (see attached).

To my knowledge, I have not installed a DriverUpdate program.

I checked Allprograms (from the START menu) and is there (also checked Program Files (x86) and it was there).

I don't need it, so is it safe to just delete the program?

Looks like something that was piggy backed in with something else. And yes it should be safe to uninstall.

Had run my weekly M-bytes and Avast scans Mon night ('DU' msg started over the wkend) and nothing was found.

Will remove 'DU' program tomorrow (don't like to make changes w/o rebooting right away) and don't want to take the time now - it's late.

Thanks for the responses ... suspected a 'piggy-back' but didn't recall installing anything recently (and try to watch for that) ... so was just wondering if someone else had the situation.

another trick to be on the alert for is a statement like "By clicking the download button you are also agreeing to install BS crapware". The license is another place, at the end, where an opt-out button may be, which is checked to install crap by default.
I've found c|NET, Major Geeks, File Hippo, etc to have these with files they host and sometimes some "download manager" which is totally unneeded.
