I have feeling that Notebook in question is not Windows 7 compatible.

    I went to:

Windows 7 Upgrade Options for Notebook PCs HP Pavilion dv6000 CTO Notebook PC | HP® Support
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Per another search, that laptop is circa 2007, I think we have a winning argument of it not being compatible.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a used 2008 Sony Vaio in same boat, stuck with Vista, I feel ya pain.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I looked more, yeah 2gig max RAM, that is a Vista only build... case closed for me.

7, if it could work on it, would be horrible to live with anyway, I hope OP has the Vista virgin install
    DVDs.
