Over the years of IT support, the Vista beta days, and now with 7 beta, I have never installed chipset drivers
. I only worried about drivers that the OS didn't have when doing a clean install. Windows Update seemed to automate this process. In an attempt to deal with the "lower HD WEI score" and another PC that had freezeup issues (had them in Vista..just not as bad), I decided to spend some time with chipset drivers. Everything I had was Intel and their site is full of information and utilities to help you along. The HD score was fixed after getting the Matrix Storage manager driver
. The PC that had freeze issues for several years now seems to have be totally cured after getting the Chipset software and Matrix storage drivers. I can't speak for other brand chipsets, but if you have Intel....I would put chipset drivers high on the list of Must Add Drivers! Windows Update will not take care of this.
I had to run some of the drivers in Compatibility mode to get the Vista versions to install.
