How to confirm I properly enabled AHCI and drivers
I went through the process of enabling AHCI on my already installed OS. My intel 520 series SSD had been running obviously slower and CrystalMark & AS SSD benchmarks confirmed it. I think everything went fine: Installed AMD AHCI/raid drivers from the ASUS web site, changed the registry, changed the BIOS to AHCI, enabled SMART and booted into windows. No problems, no BSOD -went too smooth. BIOS confirms that SATA 1 is enabled to AHCI and all the proper screens popped up showing what the tutorial said should happen along with the reboots.
I then saw Brinks post of the new AMD drivers so I downloaded and installed them.
Everything still works fine and the systems WEI HD subscore has improved from 6.1 to 7.0 and Device Manager screen has now changed to:
does this look correct?
But after all of this it appears that SMART is not working. BIOS says it is enabled, fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify says it is on, but the Intel SSD toolbox says it is disconnected and speedfan shows nothing under the smart tab. So, have I really enabled AHCI correctly and what's up with SMART?
