Intel RST drivers (iastorf.sys et al....)

Can anyone shed some light on this? I cannot get rid of iastorf.sys and iastora.sys from the Intel RST (Rapid Storage Technology). I have uninstalled RST, disabled the above via Autoruns, and get BSOD'd to death! Back to last good config. I've read all kinds of web hints, mostly scary, and tried to re-install/un-install RST... no joy.. I have even taken the time to do an "in place" win 7 upgrade, which went fine (only 3 hrs). All updates in place, all other progs, processes, other seem fine, just can't make this go away! What info can I give someone to help? Who is the PHd in drivers with a Masters in Intel? FYI... the RST is version 12.0 something, sorry but that's all I can remember. Drivers show up as 11.0.7 something. Really sorry for the lack of info, I am LOST and super frustrated! Any help appreciated. Thanks....

Hi f14tomcat, Did you uninstall using Intels recommended method ?

    ************************************************************
    * 9. UNINSTALLING THE SOFTWARE
    ************************************************************

    9a. UNINSTALLATION OF NON-DRIVER COMPONENTS
The removal of this software from the system will render any
    SATA disks inaccessible by the operating system;
therefore, the uninstallation procedure will only uninstall
non-critical components of this software (user interface,
start menu links, etc.). To remove critical components, see
    section 9b.

Use the following procedure to uninstall the software:

    1. On the Start menu, select Control Panel.
    2. Click 'Programs and Features' for Windows 7* (or higher).
Locate and select Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology.
    3. Right-click the application name, and then click 'Uninstall'.
    4. The uninstall program will start. Click through the
    options for the uninstallation.

    9b. UNINSTALLATION OF DRIVER COMPONENTS
The removal of this software from the system will render any
SATA disks inaccessible by the operating system.
Back up any important data before completing these steps.

    1) If the system is in RAID mode, delete any RAID volumes
using the Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology - option ROM
    user interface.
    2) Reboot the system.

Note: If you experience any difficulties making these
changes to the system BIOS, please contact the motherboard
manufacturer or your place of purchase for assistance.

    ************************************************************
    * 10. ENTERING THE OPTION ROM USER INTERFACE
    ************************************************************

Use the following steps to enter the Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology
Manager - option ROM user interface:

    1. Boot the system.
    2. Press CTRL-I when the
'Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology - option ROM vX.y.w.zzzz'
    banner screen appears.

    ************************************************************
    * 11. OPTION ROM RAID VOLUME MANAGEMENT
    ************************************************************
The Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology - option ROM provides
pre-OS RAID volume management which enables the following:

    1. Create RAID Volume
Use this option to create one or two RAID volumes.

    2. Delete RAID Volume
Use this option to delete a RAID volume.

    3. Reset Disks to Non-RAID
Use this option to reset a RAID configuration to a
    non-RAID configuration.

    4. Recovery Volume Options
If a recovery volume is present, use this option to
    a. Disable Continuous Update
    b. Enable Only Recovery Disk
    c. Enable Only Master Disk

    ************************************************************
    * 12. OPTIONS TO RESET THE RAID VOLUME IN OPTION ROM
    ************************************************************
Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology - option ROM user interface provides
two methods for resetting the RAID volume:
    1. Delete RAID Volume
    2. Reset Disks to Non-RAID
Differences between the options are noted below. Users are
advised to select the option based on the situation.

    12.1 Delete RAID Volume

When a RAID volume is deleted, RAID metadata on the
    participating disks is erased and sector zero is cleared;
as a result, the partition table and file system related data
are reset. Windows installer will not see any invalid data
at the time of OS installation. This is the recommended
method for reconfiguring the RAID volume and installing OS
    on it.

    12.2 Reset Disks to Non-RAID

This option is used to reset the metadata on the disk which
participates in more than one RAID volume in single
operation. It should be used if 'Delete RAID Volume' option
fails for any reason and to reset a disk that has been
marked as Spare and offline member. When a disk in the RAID
volume is reset to non-RAID, RAID metadata is erased.
However, partition table and file system related data still
exists, which may be invalid. This might cause Windows
installer to misinterpret the information available on the
'reset disk' at the time of installation. This could result
in unexpected behavior in OS installation.

    ************************************************************
    * 13. VERIFYING THE VERSION OF THE OPTION ROM SOFTWARE
    ************************************************************

    1. Use the following steps to identify the version number of
the Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology - option ROM:

    - Enter the Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology - option ROM user
interface using the steps detailed in section 10.
    - The software version will be displayed in the user
    interface banner:
'Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology - option ROM X.y.w.zzzz'

X.y.w.zzzz is the version number of the option ROM
    installed on your system.
    X.y.w - Product release number
    X - Major number
    y - Minor number
    w - Hotfix number
    zzzz - Build number

    ************************************************************
This may help you , With doing an "in place upgrade" you have lost a few options to resolve this problem the easy way of the sfc / scannow and system restore methods :)

Pebbly, thanks for your quick reply. I do not seem to have any of the above options available. There is no 'Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology - option ROM X.y.w.zzzz' display when I boot. I am not using RAID, never have. SATA in boot rom is set to ACHI. I'm at a total loss.
