    CD/DVD driver problems.

They were working fine a week ago. Then after one reboot I noticed they weren't showing in My Computer.

After a while of looking around I went to device manager and found they have errors.

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The Driver may be corrupt or missing. (Code 39)"

I am slightly confused as these are the default windows drivers.

    One is:
Optiarc DVD RW AD-7200S SCSI CdRom Device.

The other is just a virtual CD Drive from Virtual Clone Drive.

    hkeys location

you have to go to the search box at the start button and type in regedit.
then navigate your way to the hkeys that are related to the dvd/cd drivers. and then erase both the "upper and lower string data, field info" only erase where it says upper field and lower field. I am not remebering the exact path to the strings right now off hand though.

    check this out:

Windows 7 DVD Drive Not Working or Missing Registry Fix – Solution 2

    1. Click Start, and then click All Programs.
    2. Click Accessories, and then click Run.
    3. Type regedit, and then click OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
    4. In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    5. In the right pane, click UpperFilters. You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 8.
    6. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    7. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
    8. In the right pane, click LowerFilters.
    9. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    10. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
    11. Exit Registry Editor.
    12. Restart the computer.

1geron you rock! Tried just about everything, very confusing since the DVD-RW was recognized during installation. Deleting LowerFilters fixed it. Thanks!

    dvd/cd rom problems

I have issues with my dvd/cd player like the ones listed above and I have followed the instructions specified in 1geron's post. Yet when I hit step 5 I find that I have neither UpperFilters or LowerFilters listed in the right plane and I am on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and it does say DVD/CD at the top.
