BSOD when trying to sleep  

Recently when I try and sleep my computer about half to a third of the time the screen goes dark but the blue light in my computer stays on so it obviously not sleeping. Eventually it restarts (~3-5 minutes later) itself but not before displaying the BSOD with the error DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE. I have limited computer knowledge but I've attached the diagnostic files to this post. Thanks in advance for your help!

Thank you for your help ICit2lol! I scanned and repaired not realizing that knowing if it was actually repairing something would have been more helpful. I also ran a disk check right after my original post because a friend said it might help and that was also run both boxes check so any error it found it tried to repair on its own.

One thing I noticed after the scans were complete is that my computer hasn't been backing up properly for a long time because I haven't had enough space for a backup. Since it has not been backing up properly there are no system restore points and it is incapable of creating restore points when updating things like my antivirus protection (Microsoft Security Essentials), Microsoft .NET Framework 4, and Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, so they are out of date. Could this be the reason I'm having problems with a driver or is this unrelated?

I plan to purchase a new internal hard drive and replace the small one (120GB?) with a TB so I can backup to it in the future. (My computer will then have 2 TB hard drives) Does this sound like a good plan?

I don't know yet if the BSOD will pop up again but I will let you know. (it doesn't happen all the time)

Driver power state failure error is a Blue Screen of Death error that occur when there is some critical error in the system So first i will suggest you to update you drivers
You can resolve the problem by following the solution steps mentioned in the Article you only need to follow the steps mention in the article

Sadly the error is still occurring. I finally backed up my system and updated the few updates that kept popping up (Microsoft security essentials, Microsoft .NET Framework 4 and windows malicious software removal tool) but the error has happened twice since then.

britny - are the steps the same for Windows 7? This link is for Windows 8 so I tried searching this site for the Windows 7 option but I couldn't find anything.

x BlueRobot - I tried to update my ATI graphics card driver by using the autodetect option in the link but there was an error: "Could not download file: Could not parse error". Using the info it gave me I installed the Catalyst Software Suite (Display Driver ver. 8.97.100.7, OpenCL(tm) Driver 10.0.937.2, Catalyst Control Center 2012.1116.1514.27190) for a Radeon HD 4000 series since it said I had Radeon HD 4200. After the installation was complete it said warnings occurred during installation so I viewed the log and two of the drivers in the package failed to install (AMD Display Driver & HDMI/DP Audio Driver). How can I figure out what went wrong and update these driver?

I would perform a clean install of the graphics card driver to remove likelihood of a corrupted driver, please follow these steps -

1. Start Type: Device Manager
2. Expand Display Adapters
3. Right-Click Driver Name, Uninstall
4. Reboot
5. Run Driver Sweeper
6. Reboot
7. Install Downloaded Driver

Driver Sweeper will scan for any left over files from the old driver, old driver files can cause conflicts with new driver installations. Create a System Restore point beforehand, in case any problems or issues arise.

I tried following your steps xBlueRobot but a few of the drivers couldn't be reinstalled including the one that allowed me to connect to the internet so I ended up doing a system restore but I had a command window popping up every time I restarted. I had always wanted to learn how to reformat my computer and I figured this would be the perfect time. Thanks to the helpful information on other threads from this site I just completed it and things seem to be running smoothly!
