    what is spaceport.sys?

I have no clear idea idea other than it is Storage Spaces Driver (c:\windows\system32\drivers\spaceport.sys) a Kernel driver, usually configured with boot. So asking.

No code has to be inserted here.

    My questions are .....

    • What is this driver actually?
    • What purpose does it serve?
    • How to obtain it? Any program, or the BIOS settings?
    • Why it is necessary?
    • And, it I want to not use it, how can I do that?

Any help will be highly appreciated

just had a quick scan and it is a win 8 only service and is critical, if it fails to run/load the machine will not boot

Nice info, Bill. Thanks a lot for it all :)

Got a response from HAVOC, too.
    HAVOC said:
This is what I came up with when I googled Microsoft Storage Spaces Controller:
    Storage Spaces Overview
And, it appears that some sort of RAID??
Storage pools. A collection of physical disks that enable you to aggregate disks, expand capacity in a flexible manner, and delegate administration.
So people may want to not use it, too. What to do in that case?

I can say that I have got the answers, other than my last question; and the third one, partially :)
