Firewire drives aren't recognized by EVGA X58 SLI LE
I'm a proud owner of an EVGA X58 SLI LE and I love it!
I only have had one issue since owning the board for awhile, and that involves the onboard Firewire 400 headers and included connector for them. I finally decided to do something about it, so here I am.
The included connector and headers on the board seem to work OK whenever I connect a Firewire device: the drive will spin up, and the activity light turns on, so I know that it is getting power. Problem is, the drive is never recognized by Windows - not in Device Manager, My Computer, or anywhere else.
I have tried several different drives, all with the same result, and I know that the drives and Firewire cables work because I have hooked them up to other computers without issue. I've enabled 1394 support in the BIOS just to be sure that the computer itself wasn't causing the issue. And since the drives seem to get power, I don't necessarily believe it is a header or connector issue. Instead, I think I've narrowed the problem down to the Windows driver.
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, and I am using the standard Firewire drivers that Windows installs automatically. My Firewire connector appears as 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller in Device Manager. I've tried using the other drivers that Windows offers, including the 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy) and the Texas Instruments 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller. I've rebooted after changing the controller to either driver, but nothing works. I even deleted the IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controller driver and rebooted so that Windows would reinstall it, and that still didn't help.
I'm just wondering if there is another driver I can use, or if there is something else that I am missing entirely. I already installed the chipset driver from the EVGA downloads page, but it is somewhat outdated as it's for an older version of the .inf file. I know that Windows support for Firewire has been dodgy at best ever since Vista, but I'm willing to try anything to resolve the problem.
