Windows 7: Deleted something and now my screen resolution is really messed up?

Deleted something and now my screen resolution is really messed up?

Last week, I'd had some issues with adware on my computer that I had accidentally downloaded -- while I managed to deal with that, I got a little trigger-happy with Add/Remove Programs afterwards and deleted something (unfortunately, I'm not sure what, but I'm assuming it was some kind of driver?) that was apparently important for my display settings.

Prior to this, my laptop screen resolution had a variety of settings but now when I go to settings and attempt to change my display resolution, under Display it says Generic PnP Monitor on Standard VGA Graphics Card and my only real option is 1024x764, which makes everything on my screen too wide and distorted.

My question is, what should I try to do to restore my graphics/resolution?

I'm using a Lenovo U400 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Welcome to the forums fwbathy!

Have you tried a system restore? (Easiest things first you know)

You could also try a sfc/scannow to check and possibly fix any corrupted system files. We have many fine tutorials here at the forum, here's how to do that if you haven't before. Just click on the link :

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Easiest would be to restore from a restore point that is prior to messing with the system.

Hi there .. As stated in the above posts a Restore point should resolve your issue ..But if for some reason you do not have any Restore points .. You can find your Graphics Driver in the Link below .. It is pretty old though so an update maybe necessary ...

SFC only works with default windows files not drivers.
