Logitech WebCam Drivers  

Indeed, i'll never buy Logitech again either. Why on earth should I be forced to buy another webcam when I have a perfectly working one that just won't work with Windows 7 because Logitech can't be bothered to write a driver for it?

Add to that the fact that the drivers for my quickcam clashed with the standard Windows USB MIDI drivers in XP meaning that MIDI keyboards and controllers refused to work once the quickcam drivers were installed. This required a registery hack to fix, well done Logitech.

So, Logitech have their wish, I will buy a new camera, but it'll be one from another company.

So, does anyone know of a webcam, with built in mic, not made by Logitech that compatible with 64bit Windows 7?

I totally agree with those who said why should I have to buy a new webcam. I don't care if they are FREE its a load of crap. We all know darn well logitech could make the drivers if they wanted. Money doesn't grow on trees and the just buy another one attitude is fine if you don't have a family to support.

Oh ya and there fairly cheap? With a cheap webcam you can't even make out your face on so good luck with that. Webcams cost more than an entire operating system. (I got 7 for 29.99).

Go find the below software packages on the web. Do NOT attempt to run the executables. Use something like 7zip to extract the files into a folder by the same name as the executable. Then just install the drivers for the unknown device that has shown up in the device manager when you plug the old webcam into your Win7 machine.

I have an upgraded acer aspire running Win 7 Pro. It came with Vista. The camera works fine on an XP machine using the current version of the software for that machine. The same camera moved to the aspire works fine in Skype and variations of MS Messenger which support video cameras.

Reminder, do not attempt to install these packages. Only go into the extracted folders to the driver section. My driver for my Logtitech webcam model IM (the aspire has a 64 bit processor) was in the folder QuickCam_11.90.1263x64\drivers\x64\IM264

You will get error message from Windows 7 complaining about the driver not being correct, blah, blah, blah. You may not select the right driver the first time either. You will need to reset the computer after installing the driver to get it to work. If it is the wrong driver, Skype will not open the camera but give you some error message. As they say in Japanese manuals translated into English "Not to worry" try, try again.

Note that these drivers are NOT available directly on any Logitech web site but can only be obtained using the Logitech Utility Updater that is included with earlier versions of QuickCam drivers. You can only obtain them from Logitech if you are installing over the drivers QuickCam 11.7 or 11.8 already installed, which of course you cannot do in Win7. Fortunately, a web search will quickly find the drivers available from various sources. Naturally, Logitech does not offer these drivers on their FTP site and naturally, Logitech tells you that the early webcams are not Win 7 compatible. Hah! and Hah! again!

If this does not work for you, I doubt if you can get any support from Logitech and I do not guarantee that the software Gestapo will not come stomping into your location!

I'm confused about how you got this to work. I've extracted the .exe and tried to install the driver manually from within device manager but you can only pick a folder that the driver could be in and not an actual file. When you pick any of the folders in the drivers section Windows says there are no compatible drivers in there.

After extracting the files from the download, I opened Device Manager and selected the unknown device.

I then selected update drivers and selected the manual installation option. I then selected brow to find the driver folder. After I selected the appropriate file from the folder, the Device Manager brings up a list of optional devices from INF file. I selected the description closest to my device and selected install. I received the obligatory warning that these drivers were not certified for this device and installed anyway.

After doing so, the sytem saw the webcam and it worked in Skype and MS Messenger.

The key is not letting the installation wizard look for the driver but selecting it manually. There were three INF files in the folder from which I selected mine. Only one worked.

hello i am in need of drivers for a quickcam web V-UM27 for windows 7 i now that logitech only makes drivers for win 98 thru win xp but i need to use this camera as it is the only one that i own. please help me
