Ralink RT61 wireless card just quit working... I'm stumped...

About a week ago I noticed that the icon that I normally click on in my taskbar to show what wireless network connections were available was gone - I tried the "Notification Area Icons" settings to try and get it back but that didn't work- it was set to show but it just was not doing so. (The card was still functioning at this point, I was connected but just couldn't see the icon) So I decided to re-install the driver for the card, and that was the last time the Ralink RT61 wireless card ever worked.

I have tried installing the driver from the CD and a few I found on the internet and the card just won't work.
It shows up in Device Manager just like its supposed to and says "this device is working properly" but, in "Network Connections" it shows that it is "disabled" - when I try and enable it a little window appears that says "enabling......enabled" but then it never actually enables, it still says "Wireless Network Connection 2 Disabled" (not sure why the 2 is there)

I tried moving the card to a different PCI slot - no change.
Anyone have any ideas? My GF hates the long ugly ethernet cable I now have to run across the floor and over the door and into the living room to be connected to the net - any help would be appreciated.

    Bum.

Sounds like your card bit the dust . If I were you I go to the nearest computer store and buy a nice pink colored ethernet cable to cheer up your GF

You could also get a USB wireless adapter.
