Alittle confused about the AMD catalyst install

    Hi,

i have an HP Pavilion HPE h9 series 1110t with a AMD Radeon HD 7670 graphics adapter. The problem is that when i check the current installed driver version (via system properties - device manager) it tells me the driver version is 8.960.11.1000 dated 4/25/2012

So i went to the AMD site and downloaded the install manager and ran that, and then install the catalyst. But the version in device manager has not changed.

I cant even find a catalyst menu icon in order to start up the catalyst to check settings (if in fact that is what your suppose to do). I read something somewhere that you have to set your device to a default driver i could be wrong and also something about removing the intel driver on the system.

Im confused i have never had such a hard time doing such a simple thing as updating a driver. Am i missing a step here, any ideas.

here is what i installed (the first one the package) Desktop

    Thanks.

It's more than likely your system needs manufacturer specific drivers. You can find yours here. If the package gives you the option of 'Custom install' follow that route as it should give you the option to perform a clean installation which will remove your existing drivers before installing the more recent version.

Hi thanks, sadly the one on HP is older than the one i have lol... not sure why that is and not even sure how i ever updated from the original, maybe some HP auto thing. I did try that first before posting here. But strangly the driver scan says it is up to date, i cant believe they have not come out with an update since 2012 thats very strange.

The image attached shows the results of the scan and im not even sure i need to update all that stuff or not. But the video adapter is not listed other than in the (updated) section.

Makes me think there is some kind of difference between the driver you get from AMD and the one you get from HP, maybe some kind of manufacturer special version or something.

    thanks

What program is that you're running to identify your driver revisions? To be honest if your hardware is working fine there's no real need to update drivers.

I was using the link in your reply for "drivers" which is the uniblue driverscanner https://store.uniblue.com/278/cookie...unit/download/

I might just let this go, everything seems fine, its just i have one issue with one game out of 30 games i have and steam has me jumping thru hoops for almost a month now. So i might just deal with it.

Thanks so much :) for your quick replies.

Oh OK, well if that's what HP have provided then maybe they do have more recent drivers for the hardware listed, it's totally up to you if you want to update them though. What game is it you're having trouble with?

the game is called "Day of Defeat Source. Every time i minimize the game i lose the video, i can hear the game but all i get is a black screen, even doing the steam shift tab or esc, either way. So the video is crashing when minimized and its the only game that does it. This happens every time i leave the game window and i have to restart the game, no error messages, no windows conflicts, nothing out of the ordinary. I have sent the msinfo32 to steam and they came back had me do some other stuff and resent the ms32info and now say i need to update my driver. Honestly i think its their game not me as this is the only game that has this issue when minimized. And im not the only one, my friend who runs single monitor (i have dual) has the same issue.
