Yeah, I was concerned about the Mobo or the slot.

The thing is I don't know what transpired when you put the 6670 in. You say it is large and some damage might have been done when you first put it in.... I really don't know though.

I also don't know how the std VGA drive gets selected for the 6670. That's actually where I was trying to get to when you were trying to resolve the AMD install issue..

Let me check a few things. A SF member is very good with graphics drivers and I know he prescribes certain releases. Let me see what he has for an Radeon 6670. It might be as "simple" as installing the AMD driver , but the 6670 is a different card, so I want to check two things - what AMD says and what Arc recommends.

The bigger issue is the fan, but that might need the driver.

I'll be back in a bit.

Please do NOT try installing the 14.4 AMD driver.

It might make installing an earlier release more difficult (2 days to get 14.4 on !) Part of that is troubleshooting and giving instructions on a forum, part of it was it's a lot of things to do.

Bill, I just thought that I may clarify a thing about the vga not sure if it's relevant or not but I am using the blue head cable thingy, also about the 14.4 update i'm afraid I rushed things a little bit and installed it the day i acquired the new graphic hoping it would make it work, I apologize for the inconvenince.

    Ok, I'm at a loss.

    blue head cable thingy ???

    and I am confused now.

When you got the 14.4 AMD installed and saw the green line, which GPU was in the machine?

Take your time and please explain what was done between the success you had (albeit green line nuisance) and now.

Remember, I'm on this side of your monitor and wasn't there when you did things. Something like
After I had the green line issue, I went out and bought a new 6670 card.....
I removed the old card (did you turn off the machine, did you take electrostatic precautions)
and placed in an anti-electrostatic bag
    .....

Any detail is important, blue head thingy - I don't even know how to search for that. You have the card and the instructions that came with it. Please use the terms in the instructions .

And..... did the card ever work? It doesn't sound as though it did.

Are there any unidentified entries in the Dev Mgr?

I'm heading out so I'll take a look tomorrow (Sunday)

ok, 1st, when I mentioned the blue head cable thingy, I was talking about the blue head vga cables we used to use as opposed to the HDMI cables used nowadays, I use it because otherwise I have no image since the device mgr does not detect the Radeon HD 6770
2nd, when I installed the 14.4 update and saw the green line, that was the radeon HD 6570, not the new 6770, anyway the update did not work and the driver remained unchanged.
3rd, I changed the graphic card on the 4th of july, I installed it following the instructions, meaning that I turned off and opened the computer, removed the old one and proceded to install the new one. The graphic card has not worked since, the fan does not spin and it does not spin in safe mode as well. When I tried to put back the old one, I was unable to obtain an image with either cables, the blue head vga cable and the hdmi cable.
There are no unidentified entries in the device mgr

Thanks, I'll pick this up tomorrow.

I know I saw an updated version in a device manager screen shot. What do you mean by the above statement.

Other than that, you gave very good synopsis of events.

    Thanks.

What I meant is that after I installed the driver update on the Radeon HD 6570, I ran the game and got the same message asking me to update my driver, I assumed that the driver update failed once again.

Ah, I see - thanks. I missed that part where the game suggested an update again after the 14.4 Catalyst got installed.

I suggest that if everything else is running fine and the game suggest updating - forget what the game says

    Let's try something simple.

With the 6670 in the machine,
    manually run Windows Update (WU)
Look in the optional updates for an AMD graphics / display driver
    apply the update.

If there is nothing offered by WU, you can try installing AMD 13.9 WHQL

I tried to run the WU but it failed to install anything, it said failure to install the updates, there was no update for AMD graphics/ display drivers.
I installed the 13.9 update but i'm not sure if it did anything, here's the log: C:\Program Files\ATI\CIM\Reports\Report.xmltrouble updating driver for AMD Radeon 6570 HD-log.jpg

Ok, it looks as though 13.9 was installed, please post a screen shot of Dev Mgr - Display > Driver (plate) tab.
