Still the VGA base driver.

hmmm.

Are you booting to safe mode or normal Windows?

Could you do me a favor and update the system specs on your SF profile?
That way members won't have to search the thread for system information.
Note that you will still have to type in Desktop for the type and HPE h8-1020 as the model (the tool doesn't pick that up)

Please add your SF Systems Specs by following this tutorial: System Info - See Your System Specs
  • In the System Manufacturer/Model Number field, manually type Desktop or Laptop adding it to the information already in the field.
  • Specify Custom Build as the manufacturer if it is not an OEM machine.
  • The tool does not fill in this information but it is very important if someone has to research drivers or hardware for your machine.
Log on to Sevenforums (SF) and let the tool fill in you System specs on your SF profile.

Full instructions are in the tutorial. It's a simple process and it makes that information readily available on your posts. You don't have to retype the information in any thread.

Click here to view your system specs on SevenForums.

Click on My System Specs in the lower left of any post by any member to see what is presented about their machine.

When I'm at a loss during troubleshooting, I always return to the base.

Here's what I'd like you to try
1) Put the 6570 back in the machine.
2) uninstall AMD using Programs and features
3) Search C:\ for folders related to the driver (AMD and ATI Technologies)
Double click on Computer
Double click on C:\
type or copy the following into Windows explorer search box
kind:=Folder AMD NOT (amd64 OR amdk)
A search on my machine turned up two Folders
C:\AMD
C:\Program Files\AMD

rename C:\AMD to AMD-x2
rename C:\Program Files\AMD AMD-x2

Search C:\ for ATI Technologies - this didn't show up the last time you tried it, but some installs, uninstalls have been done.
Double click on Computer
Double click on C:\
type or copy the following into Windows explorer search box
kind:=Folder ATI tech
A Search on my machine turned up one folder
C:\Program Files\Common Files\ATI Technologies

rename C:\Program Files\Common files\ATI Technologies to ATI Technologies-x2
(might not be found)

If either search include C:\Windows\WinSxS folders DO NOT rename any of those folders.
4) Download the HP base Graphics driver
On the HP page I linked, Click on sp59747.exe (File name: sp59747.exe [1/1, 120.69M]). It should start the download.

5) Restart your machine

6) install the HP base Graphics driver sp59747

7) Restart the machine.

Thanks

I updated my SF profile as you requested, I'm booting to normal windows.
Before attempting to reinstall the AMD radeon 6570, last time I tried to reinstall it I could not obtain any image at all but the fan was working, do I have to boot it in safe mode to obtain an image?

Do all of the uninstall first, the driver being used is the std VGA driver , so no big deal

When you uninstall AMD from CP > P&F, select express uninstall (forgot to mention that before). You want everything AMD uninstalled. We know the driver isn't present (or at least isn't being loaded).

Obtain an image?

Ah, on the display - hmmmm, good question.

You're still connecting the monitor using the VGA cable, right?

Sometimes, they're power sensitive. Try powering down the machine and monitor. Disconnect the VGA cable from both.

I previously asked you if you could place the 6670 in another slot - you said it was too big.

Is there an open slot that will accept the 6570? In other words can both cards be in slots in the machine at the same time? That would also give more information on the health of the 6570.

Let me know if you can put the 6570 in another slot, that might cause a conflict, but it shouldn't.

If there isn't an available slot, then remove the 6670 and install the 6570 in it's place.

Connect the VGA cable to the 6570
Power on the Monitor
Power on the machine.

If there's nothing on the monitor.....
do you have another way to get to the forums (a phone, table, or another machine?)

If you have to use that machine and there is no image on the display, then you'll have to put the 6670 back in.

See how far you get and I'll catch up on your next post.

Hi skip,

Fixing the issue with the graphics card
Which card and which issue?

Driver still an issue - got it.
5700 - got it.
Wonder where I got 6770 - maybe helping on a different thread. Sorry about that.

So where does your machine stand now?
Is the 5700 installed or the 6570?

Were you able to install the HP base graphics driver? Did you attempt to install it?

Please update the thread with what was done from posts# 81 & 83 - I'm flying blind here. Thanks.

Please follow OPTION ONE (DM log collector) in this tutorial (ignore the name of the tutorial)
Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

The tool collects a lot of information form various system sources that should make it easier for members on this side of your monitor to research possible causes.

Thanks

When I said I fixed the issue with the graphic card, I was talking about the computer not detecting the graphic card.
I told you it was a 6770, I have no idea where that came from.
So bottom line is that the new graphic card is working perfectly fine, drivers installed and all.
The only remaining issue the 14.4 update.

I see - could you post what you did to resolve the machine not detecting the card? I'm curious.

Haha - that's where I got 6670! Not matter, it is correctly identified as a Radeon 5700 now.

Excellent - everything is working again!

Post the device manger properties screen shot for Display > Plate (driver) tab
I'm not certain of the driver version already on the machine. I'm also not certain if a driver update would satisfy the game - it might want a bigger, better, faster, more expensive card.

I can try to determine if the 14.4 update would help or not in this case. Sometimes a less invasive change (add/modify the defs for the game in the driver table) works.

I might recommend 13.9 based on other issues reported by members (not necessarily with 14.4) - that is a known stable release and I don't want your machine to exhibit worse symptoms.

What game (name and version) was it again?

This research will take some time as I have to look at the game and the GPU, compare and figure out if any of it makes sense in your case. I had dental surgery on Monday, so I'm a bit off, plus a storm passed through last night that is still knocking Internet off - guess a few trees took down some wires and they are repairing them one section at a time. I'm not sure why it goes in and out, more trees?

It's actuallty quite simple really, the card had no power going to it, it had to be pluged, here's a terribly crude drawing of what was missing trouble updating driver for AMD Radeon 6570 HD-ati-card.jpg
Here's the driver shot:

And about the internet, it's probably the aliens, it's always the aliens.

A Picasso!

Driver 8.961.0.0 - I'll have to check, but I think that's the same driver delivered with Catalyst 14.4. It's in your thread somewhere, a screen shot after you updated the old card. If it is, there's no need to do anything. The other pieces in the Catalyst 14.4 package aren't related to the GPU (HDMI, Catalyst Install Manager (CIM), and Catalyst Control Center (CCC), maybe another unrelated piece)

How about refreshing my memory on what game and version?

I always ask Brink if he knows anything about these Internet things.

I'll post again after I get the chance to find anything useful, but there's not much else to do on your side on the monitor.

Keep in mind that you changed the way Windows Update (WU) works - you have to manually check now (it should notify you when there are updates). When you do check WU, review the optional updates for hardware drivers, update any if needed.

Now you have initimate knowledge of why a technician's first question is usually "Is it plugged in".
Note that I am not a technician and therefore did not ask that question.
