Windows 7 - ATI (AMD) Radeon 9250

Win7 Beta

ATI (AMD) Radeon 9250

I have a cheap Radeon 9250 128Mb card (Hightech Excalibur), and on a new install of Windows 7 32-bit the Windows VGA driver seems to work well, and operates OK in 32-bit 1280x1024 res.

Initially, the display was 800x600 and that led me to try to install the Radeon drivers for the card, but the Windows VGA one prevailed. So I just left it as-is, since the graphics card and indeed the entire machine is a bit old (Asus P4P800-SX mainboard), and I was otherwise happy with Windows 7 Beta1.

Any sense persisting with the ATI Radeon driver install?

I suggest against it, I have installed the proper drivers but unfortunately on every shutdown I'm receiving BSOD. ati2atg.dll (I think). Tried changing the AGP aperture but sill no luck. Have you had any problem with the Windows VGA driver? What is your max resolution. I'm running 1920 x 1080.

Windows 7 x64 build

Hey gxdata,
I have a ATI Radeon 4850, and thought I'd throw an idea out there for ya. I installed Unreal Tournament 3 (looks better than gears of war on HD) on my PC as the first game installed without any other graphics drivers except for windows ones. It ran the game at 60 FPS (the game has a FPS Cap) I ran the Beta Drivers from ATI for the 4800 series and got the same result.

Point in case, The windows drivers are awesome. I Wouldn't see any reason to change them after I tested it like that.

But, If you really want to install the new drivers you can extract the drivers onto the desktop into a folder and go to your Graphics Card in the Device Manager and click update driver, and click browse my computer and point it at that file on the desktop to manually over-ride windows.

Personally I'd leave it as is. This is beta. If something works don't go messin with it

Hi I have the Radeon excalibur 9250 istalled, yet there is no possibilita to control 2 monitors hooked up to it, control pannel tells me, there is a simple VGS card installed.
driveragent.com answers that they don´t support Win/.
Where did you get a driver to make the Radeon running?

To every poster on this thread with the exception of Spartan117, You all need to go to your user cp's and fill out in lenght your system specs. Without knowing exactly what build version and what bit 32 or 64 and hardware you useing other people on this forum can't help you to the fullest especially if other issues arise. This should Always be one of the first things you do when you join any help forum.Thank you and welcome to sevenforums. With that said for poster with windows drivers that are working if it ain't broke don't fix it. Of course you won't have all the options of the CCC application. But their are several other ways to try and override the windows driver, with all graphics drivers I always reccomend that after uninstalling them you run driver cleaner to make sure you have completely removed everything from the previous driver. Then as fore mentioned download the specific driver for your card to your desktop (easiest way unpack them to a folder their) and go to device manager, choose update driver and then choose to point it to that folder. You must make sure that the driver is the correct 32bit or 64bit, whichever OS your using. When possible try and always be running the latest build of seven. Another way is to boot into safe mode and try and manually install the driver in compatibility mode. Clicking on the setup.exe file >properties >check compatibility mode then most of the time Vista. With older graphics cards I think your going to find it difficult to get the driver installed without trying one of thse options. Fabe
