Problems with BIOS A09 in Inspiron 1720

Hello all,

I am trying to install Microsoft 7 from Vista. I've run into a series of problems.

-- I downloaded microsoft 7 from the microsoft online store
-- I can't complete the setup process until I update the BIOS -- error message is:
Windows cannot be installed on this computer with the current system BOIS versoin. Contact your computer manufacturer for a BIOS update, install the update, and then start windows instalation again. OEM Name: Dell Inc.; OEM Model: Inspiroin 1720 ; BIOS Version: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A04; BIOS Date: 20071105000000.000000+000

-- So, I went to dell and downloaded BIOS A09

-- I went to run it but I am told I have to be an administrator

-- After reading online how to be an admin of my own computer, I logged in as "safe mode" and try to run it again

-- now is where the fun starts -- I get a new error -- it tells me that it won't run due to a flash error, something like this:

BIOS Flash A09 Inspiron 1720

0X00000610
0X0000043C

I've looked online but don't see a solution. I added ram and now have 4GB.

Hi and welcome

I also have a dell. first did the bios you have recognise the new ram? Second it seems to be better to have less ram when installing or flashing. did you get one of the dell ""exe" updates? the kind you double click and then it extracts the files and installs them? Just to be on the safe side DL again, and try to re-install. I think there might even be an A10 bios, because I have that on mine.

Let us know if you need help

I have an Acer Aspire 1720. It came win a P4 w/ht 3.4Ghz 478 slot processor. I swapped it out for a 3.0 ghz processor (used the 3.4 in a pc I built) However, I dont have the old cpu so I bought a new one (3.4)

I have Windows 7 on the Acer now with the 3.0ghz cpu. Do I need to upgrade the bios to put the cpu (3.4) back in?

If so where do I get i
