Need Help - Installation Win 7 on Sony Vaio VGN-CR11Z/R

    Hello,

I've just installed Windows 7 Professional on my Vaio CR11Z/R.
Since I didn't have any BackUp CD for Utility or Driver, I've downloaded the driver and software from Sony Website, and install the software utility.
But the S-Keys (Capture Button, Volume Control Button etc.) and Fn Key doesn't work.

From forum, I saw that we should install the utility in some order, but that was for another vaio series.
Could someone help me how to make my Fn Key, and S-Keys work.

    Many thanks!!!

    VAIO

    Compatibility Mode
You need to run the Installer using compatibility mode set to Vista.
The drivers are compatible, so you don't have to worry about it.

I had the exact same problem. I fixed it yesterday. I basically did this:

    - Install Vaio event service
    - Reboot
    - Install sony shared library
    - reboot
    - Install Power management driver
    - Reboot

And it should work..you can find all these driver from the sony website under your installed drivers. Save them all onto your desktop first into separate folders after you have extracted them. And then install them one by one.

PM me if you need more help.

    Hi,

I followed all those steps and fixed the function key problem....Thank you very much.

However I still couldn't fix my cam. Could you please help me on this?

    My vaio is VGN-CR11Z/R

I used this ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/VAIO/ORIGINAL/ when I fixed my function keys and I picked the drivers you mentioned in random and worked.

How will I proceed to fix my cam?

Thank you ver much in advance!

    Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit
       #10

This is an old post, but I thought I would add some information that may help others.

I also have a VGN-CR11Z/R laptop and have been having problems with getting drivers for Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit.

Using the drivers from the Vaio website for the model I could get the sound function keys to work but not the brightness keys which are just as useful.

My installation was initially clean but I have subsequently installed, uninstalled drivers of different types to try and get the function keys working, so any information here may not work when you try as I might have missed out a vital driver.

I searched the link below for VGN-CR11Z/R 64Bit drivers:

    http://www.vaio-link.com/os/vista/64bit/

    This gave me drivers for:

    Bluetooth
    Graphics ATI
    Memory card reader
    Wireless lan Intel
SFEP SONY (Most important, the Sony Firmware Extension Parser Device driver)

The SFEP will be the unknown device in device manager when you perform a clean install.

The Graphics ATI is also good to have.

You can grap the original VGN-CR11Z/R drivers here:

    VAIO : Sony Europe

But I also grabbed some drivers from here:

    ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/VAIO/ORIGINAL/

the CR1_DRIVER.zip and CR1_UTILITIES.zig files. I think I got the camera working from these, with installing under vista compatibility.

I could not get the mousepad drivers to work other than the native windows one as the sony ones failed to install. I visited synaptic directly and downloaded the 64Bit driver there and although it mentions to used the manufacture driver, I found it better. You might have luck with other Sony drivers if you expereiment. You can find the link here for synaptic though:

    Drivers | Synaptics

As for getting the FN keys to work, I resorted to using the drivers for the VGN-CS11Z/R laptop found here:

    VAIO : Sony Europe

    I used to following files:

    7UPG_VAIO Event Service
    7UPG_Sony Shared Library
    7UPG_VAIO Power Management

Installed in that order, and the FN keys seemed to work after the Sony Shared Library was installed. As it's not the orriginal driver from your original vista stock, it does look a bit different but it works fine on my laptop. I'm not sure the Power Management worked but I was trying to follow what others had done before on this thread and installed it anyway.

These drivers also prevented the Battery warning from coming up which caused your laptop to go into hybernation if you clicked 'OK'. If you get this, uninstall all sony drivers and start again.

Hope this helps someone, there is probably something that does not work correctly but so far I've not found it and my new Windows 7 64Bit system works well, especailly with a bigger HDD and 4Gb of ram installed.

It's a shame these laptop companies do not actively support these old laptops providing drivers, leaving the user to struggle to discover what works, forcing people to buy new hardware. Great for the hardware selling company, but bad for the enviroment.

    Good luck
