    Asus Q400a gpu driver problems.

Hey all, I'm fixing up a friends laptop for him because he wants to sell it to a mutual friend of ours; However, I've been tasked with upgrading from win8 to win7 on this laptop, which actually went smoother than I though. I've installed every single driver EXCEPT for the gpu. I have absolutely no idea what gpu it has. I clearly remember way back when that this computer had an AMD gpu that ran better than my current computers nvidia 660m.

When going to the driver support page, it says the computer has an nvidia gpu, despite the fact that when I try to install the provided driver I get "The graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware." I get the same error when using Geforce experience, and before anyone suggests that I'm on the wrong drivers page, the back of the computer specifically states it as a q400a, and looking up the drivers via serial number brings me to the same result.

AMD driver identifier says it can't identify anything, and a program I use called driver identifier can't see an nvidia or AMD gpu.

Upon looking around online, I've found reports that this computer does not actually have a dedicated gpu. DESPITE there being an nvidia download on the drivers page, and the fact that I know it has played games such as Path of Exile, League of Legends, and DayZ FLAWLESSLY. I don't think that's possible on an intel 4000 integrated chip.

Anyway, I'm confused. So very, very confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Hi What is the exact Model Number of your Laptop ? ....

It seems that only some Models Came with the Nvida Graphics ...

If you look on the Asus Download page ...You will see that Windows 8 does have a Driver for the Nvida Card ..

But under Windows 8.1 there is no such Driver ....

    Full model name is Q400a - BH17N03
    Serial number is CBN0AS270101257

Another model number I found is listed under the network adapter: 2230BNHMW

As far as I remember, he got the laptop before 8.1 came out.

I have no errors in device manager, I took care of all of them. I'm so blown away. He may have actually ran all those games using an onboard Intel card. Wow.

I suggest using Snappy Driver Installer to identify, download and install the driver.

If the PC doesn't perform as well as it used to before, it might be because you're using the default universal video driver which doesn't support full hardware acceleration of your GPU. Even Standard VGA driver doesn't report errors even though you can see windows leaving traces when they're moved around.

I already sent the computer out. It seems it really does just run games well on the Intel 4000 graphics. Case closed. Thanks for all the help!
