Windows 7: W7 compatible driver for CanoScan Lide 35

I've done that too.

This may just be a case of simple incompatibility and no amount of installing different drivers is going to correct it.. sorry but sometimes it happens...

Similar issues with an older HP flatbed. There is a driver for the scanner but the HP software that made it functional will not be updated.

In the meanwhile VueScan works, though the interface sucks.

You could install an WinXP virtual OS on your PC and use the old driver. I suppose you do not use the scanner every 5 minutes, so switching to an virtual WinXP should not be a problem.

I just got off the phone with Canon - the CanoScan LiDE 35 is NOT compatible with Windows 7 64 bit. You can buy a new scanner through their Customer Loyalty program (CusaCanonLoyaltyProgramView) and they'll give you a 10% discount and free shipping for your troubles. New photoscanner costs you roughly 80 bucks (free shipping) after discount. they do have a cheaper model - roughly 55 bucks.

In a laughable sidenote; you still have to download the Windows 7 driver from their support site, but they swear it works.

Yeah, I ran into this same issue at home. I just left the scanner connected to an old Windows XP machine that I have lying around the house. Fortunately, I don't use it all that often.

I had a problem with this scanner trying to install as if it were a Canoscan LiDE50. I adapted this guy's methods (Windows 7 – Canon LiDE 35 installation fix | Bull's Rambles) and they worked for me.
I've reprinted them below but changed what I needed to to get mine to work. Hope this helps someone


Open device manager locate the scanner device (it probably has a yellow exclamation mark next to it).

Select properties then update driver.

Choose Browse my computer for driver software then Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

Look for Canon Inc. in the manufacturer list, then select CanoScan LiDE 35, instead of the default CanoScan LiDE 50. <-- you may have to first download and install this driver from Canon's website

Click next and ignore any warnings about the driver not matching your hardware (you shouldn't get these anyway), that’s it all done your scanner should now work.
