Hi hope someone can help. I have done a clean install of Windows 7 Homepremium and my battery life on my Vaio TX3 has gone from 6.5 Hours to only 3 hours. I cant find the power management drivers. Also I can no longer use the keyboard hot keys to adjust the screen brightness ! thanks

VGN are differing models. Sony won't support a whole division of laptops? Rubbish. Check the sony website and look for the control centre.

I haven't gotten my "hot keys" to work yet but others claim to have. Check out Sony.com, then support, drivers, etc. You'll get to a page where you input your model number and it'll display all the drivers. To get everything working you have to install certain drivers/programs in a specific order that I do not know.

FWIW, the windows button + "X" will bring up screen brightness adjustment. That's what I've been using until I get my function keys working again.

Sony Vaio VGN-TX3 XP laptop battery power & windows 7

Same problem here sonyvgntx3xp - did a clean windows 7 install and my battery life reduced overnight from over 6 hours to around 2.5 hours (or less). Also having problem with using the hot keys and the volume buttons etc. Have tried to install the windows vista drivers from the sony support site (where relevant), including the power management update, but still no luck. Have also tried to install the vaio control centre, but it doesn't run. Very frustrating! - I agree with Frostmourne there should be no reason why Windows 7 doesn't work on this laptop. Any help/pointers gladly accepted-based on this experience, I am having second throughts about installing W7 on my VGN XL-301 now.

From a post by whest and vanq69 (thanks as this also works for the VGN TX3)

Use compatibility with vista to install the program if it wont install -
To install a driver OR program in compatibility mode - right click the setup.exe file - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista/xp etc - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start setup.exe and install.

I went to:

Vaio : Sony Europe (url - Vaio : Sony Europe

From this I downloaded and installed in the following order (all were just the 32bit versions but worked for me):

SFEP Driver (installed through Device Manager)

Sony Shared Library

Setting Utility Service

VAIO Event Service

-- Should now have function and S1 button working

VAIO Power Management

VAIO Control Centre.

After several reboots it worked !!

Hope this helps anyone who has the same issue. I will re-iterate this worked for me for my model but hopefully this might provide a starting point or solution for others. Many thanks to Whest for his invaluable help.

Thanks to the other posts I have fixed the problem.

Thanks for this info Chris, your help is very much appreciated. Your solution has worked for me in most areas - . I still think that my battery life has dropped significantly, but everyting else is sorted.

Does your Vaio Update work?
