microsoft digital media Keyboard 3000 failing to install driver

    hi,
i tried to connect my Microsoft digital media Keyboard 3000 keyboard to my desktop running windows 7 pro sp1 64 bit, the system tries to find the drive fails and then the keyboard will not register a key press.
i installed both the Intellitype and keyboard and mouse center from microsofts website but sill the keyboard fails the install because windows update can't find a driver for it.
    any thoughts or ideas?
    thanks

If your system sees the keyboard the basic function should work even with out the specific driver. (Intellitype) The specialty keys probably will not work.

If I remember correctly that is a usb keyboard.
    Try another usb 2.0 port.

it sees the device and names it but put a "!" beside it.

That means that Windows see the keyboard and is noting there is a problem with it.

    Hardware not working properly

There are many reasons why hardware may not work properly. If Windows recognizes a problem with a device, it is denoted by a black exclamation point (!) on a yellow triangle in the lower right-hand corner of the device's icon.

Try another keyboard and see if you have the same problem.
Also try using Windows Updates because you might get a driver update for the keyboard.

Do you have all of Windows 7 Updates including SP-1?

I tried that it fails the software installs but still it seeks windows update for the drive, fails to find a driver and then kills keyboard support.

Does any of the function on the keyboard work?
Have you tried other usb ports? 2.0 ports only.
Do you use a usb hub?
Have you tried any thing else in the usb ports and see if you have the same problem?
