Windows 7: Problem with GPU driver.

Problem with GPU driver.

After a certain power failure, my GPU was underperforming. Windows Experience Index even gave a very low score on reassessment.

Then after checking everything, i concluded that the reason is that the driver is corrupt (even thought there's no warning about it as if nothing happens). I reinstalled the driver from nVidia (the latest 344.40 i think, in that moment).

It worked. It ran smooth, it could play games and movies like before.

But the problem comes back after/everytime i restart my PC. The GPU is going back slow again and nothing indicates that the driver is wrong. I reinstall the driver again, and it works again. But it's always like that on restart. It became quite frustrating after a few days (even though i rarely restart my PC) because i was working with something else that required me to turn off my PC.

Today, i updated the driver to 344.60 (the latest latest). I thought the problem would go away because it had occurred to me that somehow 344.40 was a buggy driver. But it persisted.

Just now, my Internet connection was disconnected for 2 minutes, and after it reconnected, this GPU is running slow again i had to reinstall the driver again for it to run smooth again.

Please help, i don't know what is wrong. The Windows maybe?

PS: the information of my CPU and Windows is correct

Hi, but it works perfectly when i don't have to restart my system. Can a damaged card perform flawlessly like that?

But i will try your solution. thank you

Also, Nvidia has released 344.65 today. I doubt it will do anything for you but it is available.

Hi. I updated the driver, test the GPU in other system. Still nothing. It's fine on reboot on the other system.

I did some check today, turned out the performance is fine after reboot until certain second. So i think it must be the system screwing around the GPU driver. Can some startup item override the GPU driver?

are you saying it does same thing on other computer that it needs a reboot? if so then I would have to believe the card is faulty.

if you think it some start up item then go to run type msconfig then on startup uncheck everything and save and exit reboot computer and try again. if you do not have problems then go back and check a few items and try again till you find the culprit

i'm sorry. I meant was it's fine on other computers, so it works perfectly without the need of getting the driver reinstalled.

Oh okay, will check through msconfig, never thought that one before. Thanks!

I think i found it. As unlikely as it sounds, the culprit is the windows "Action Center".
Do you guys have any idea how it mess with my GPU driver?

I tried booting up and shutting down over and over. The GPU runs fine on boot up UNTIL action center pops up. I don't even have to reinstall everything, it works fine before action center pops up.

Hi, i apologize for the late response. Been trying this and that (even returned the GPU, just got the new GPU yesterday). I can't still find what's wrong. It's not action center either since i disabled it and the problem still persisted.

Funny thing is, i found a shorter way to make my GPU working again without the need of reinstalling the driver. Just go to the GPU properties under control panel and disable the driver, and then enable it. The GPU will work just fine (perfectly fine, can do furmark fine, hardcore gaming fine), until the machine is restarted or until some hour later (probably about 8 hours).

I returned the GPU as some of you and my friends suggested that it might've been the hardware failure. I got a new GPU now, but the problem persisted. So i guess it's not hardware problem.
